Question about Pay

by SuesquatchRN Premium Member

I am interviewing within my facility for a nurse manger position on a 40 bed unit.

I believe it is salaried. If a floor nurse makes around $40k a year ($21 an hour) how much should I ask for? I'm going to accept it, period, but would like to have some idea.

Thanks!

I don't think they much that much more. It's usually a dollar an hour or so.
Unless you are a Director of Care at a LTC facility then its a few bucks more.

depends on where you are. You should see if you could find out what other nurse managers are making, and also you should take your experience into account.

In my area, the pay would likely be $5 - $7/hr. more than a staff RN position.

What state are you located in? Personally if this is your first management position then I would look at gaining the experience, while the pay is on the low end the experience that you gain may be very valuable to you in years to come

Agreed. Our managers only make a few dollars an hour more than the staff RNs

As I said, I'm taking it, period. I was curious, though.

Our manager told me several of the floor nurses make more money a year than she does.

21.00 per hour sound awfully low to me, even here in Florida new grad Rn's are starting at 21.60

Rule of thumb in my area is if it is within your current facility about 10% increase of your current hourly rate but now salaried, capped at rate times 40 hours/week. Some places offer comp time 1/2hour for every hour over 40 worked in LTC. In another facility, whatever they offer is usually set. Good Luck.
