Report it to your supervisor immediately. The suspected person should be sent home immediately. If you don't report it, You will be held accountable.

Same as my job. However, I'm still shock to see the employee still employed after suspected resident abuse....

Yes, separate patient from employee that was witnessed abusing them. That only makes sense for the protection of both going forward.

Make sure the resident is safe and report it immediately. You can't assume someone is guilty simply because they've been accused.

someone shouldn't be fired for suspected abuse. we suspend an employee pending investigation. if they are determined to be innocent they are returned to work and paid for their time of suspension. if they are determined to be abusive then they are terminated.

We ensure the resident (or employee) is safe then report it to the DON and facility administrator ASAP. Then an incident report is filled out for the state agency and the state is contacted. We also alert the MD and the resident's family member(s).

If the abuse is from an employee to a resident, then the employee is sent home and cannot return to work until the state has come in and investigated. If the employee is found innocent, then he or she can return to work and is paid for the scheduled time that he or she had to miss due to the investigation.
