Out the Door Rant

by OldMareLPN Premium Member

Well, after 6 months, everyone on this board telling to get out I am totally burnt out of longterm care/ALF.

No more getting yelled at for ordering kleenex, patients getting substandard care, warned about sending patients to the hospital (who get admitted) buying pizza for residents who can't eat the putrid food, and bringing in soap for residents who can't afford to buy their own. No more warnings about buying to many gloves (with 13 patients with MRSA) no more 2 of 3 aides calling off, no more warnings about tellings families to call their docs to find out why their pts are falling. No more 'your job is paperwork and filing'.

Life now for me is correctional nursing. Clean well staffed Doctor in daily (not a ARNP) clinic for learning, intelligent ceu's and a full pack of professional RNs an LPNs!

Ya I miss the patients, but I can't buy them pull ups anymore so the ALF crossed my line when it comes to pt care.

I will miss you all, especially those who responded, but I went to school to nurse.

Good luck, OldMare! I have a good friend who, after a long career in LTC, started working in corrections and she loves it. Hopefully you will feel the way she does! Keep us posted, please?

Good luck in your new adventure OldMare. Corrections is unlike any field out there but can be very rewarding in it's own way.
