Just a little midnight story for you all. Okay it's 3am and I just got home from work. Supposed to have gotten off at 11 but....

1. Lady with a leaky colostomy and watery stools.

2. Lady with confusion, "I am the boss here", "I am out of bread" she was also directing traffic to the dining room and "visiting" everyone in their rooms.

3. Problem patient tearing up her room, ripping the side rails off her bed and scooting across the floor with out pants on.

4. #1 lady with continued loose stools and needed 2 different colostomy changes-seal and all.

5. No one ordered tails for colostomy bags so we had to recycle

6. Diabetic with bs of 598

7. Lady with fluid filled lungs-hospice called and new med

8. 2 ng tube flushes and feedings

9. 8 diabetics needing sugars and insulin

10. lady with rectal bleeding from constipation

11. lady with bloody urine-happens all the time but it was my first night on hall.

So I had to call 4 different doctors, the pharmacy to see how to dose a z-pack and what the ingredients of lomotil was. Treatments and meds. That was just on my wing. The other nurse sent 1 patient to the hospital. Is it a full moon or am I just lucky? I am so glad I have a sense of humor although I thought about sitting down and sobbing occasionally.:crying2: I hope I unwind my mind before my body falls asleep. :rotfl:

I'm sorry for your horrible night!

Though I will say that this post kinda makes me feel a little better. I thought I had the worst night last night... But sometimes it's nice to know someone else was just as bad if not worse.

If I walked in and read that on the communication sheet I'd turn around and walk back out.

Seriously, a sense of humor is a MUST in the nursing home, an absolute MUST. The only way the staff and I survived nights like you just described was with a sense of humor. It got us through many a bad night. I miss those lady's I worked with, we had some good times together.

If you got through that, you can get through anything. :coollook:

That's a "shift from hell" I don't want to go through with my small convalescent hospital.

By the way, that many diabetic residents?

I would have quit that place along time ago.

There are 5 on the other end. I like a challenge and this certainly provides that. Last noc was better only had to send 1 pt in and only 1 had diarhea. :p
