A New Grad in an ALF

I just got a job in an ALF. It wil be full-time 2:30 to 11p, with 1 other RN and 2 aides. There are a lot of residents, but only 25-30 need nursing care.

I'm a new grad with no health care experience besides volunteerinG in an ER. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi. Congratulations on your new position! Will you have a preceptor?

I have advice -

1. Never throw any linen in the hamper without doing a "shake check" . This means checking for hearing aides and teeth, or whatever else may be really expensive to replace.

2. Practice being really, really, really patient. The older we get, the more time it takes to tell stories.

3. Be prepared to give and receive hugs - Oh...and smile a lot too.

(I'm a caregiver--not nurse) I always check inside trashes for important items, check the bathroom floor, shake pill cups.

its a good idea to shake linens, I hadn't thought of that.
