If the plaintiff does not accept the settlement and the case goes to trial then you may be called to testify, depending on your role in the patient's care- especially the incident(s) that triggered the lawsuit.

The court itself does will not be taking any action against your license, since you're not the one on trial. But if this is reported to the BON and there is an investigation than you could face discipline from the BON. Again, this depends on your role in the incident. If you are not guilty of any neglect, assault, operating outside your scope of practice, etc. then that's good.

Either way, you need a lawyer. The sooner the better.

If you carry your own malpractice insurance, now's the time to contact them. As mentioned, you need to get an outside lawyer to protect your interests rather than just to be included in your facility's case. Your facility has its own interests to protect, not necessarily yours. Good luck.
