I got fired today

Been in nursing for five years and this is my first time being fired. I got fired from a LTC facility.I had to reschedule my class room orientation due to having an exam and had one call out for on the floor orientation due to being sick. I never got the chance to even orient on the floor. I told them during the interview that I'm a nursing student and everyone was okay with that, well so I thought. I want to start applying for other jobs but how do I explain this termination. So heart-broken. :crying2:

- Oh btw the way they fired me was very disappointing. I was supposed to begin on the floor orientation today at 3pm, I arrived early at 2pm. I went to HR and she told me to wait for the DON to see what floor I would be orienting one. The DON made me sit and wait for her in an office for an hour before telling me I was fired. The HR manager had NO idea the DON plan on firing me. The HR manager even accepted my voided check for Direct Deposit. After I got fired, the HR director called me into her office and gave me a hug. She stated that she was so sorry and had no idea. She also stated that I could use her as a reference. I'm so in shock. As I was being fired I went into a state of shock. Right now I could of thought of so many questions I could of asked and should have pleaded with them to keep me on board. Wow.

Been there, don't list them on your resume. You will eventually get what is meant for you when the time is right!

Aw. Sad to hear that..

If you did not even start orientation than did you technically even work there? I mean it makes sense that if you did not have any documented hours of employment and no paycheck then you really never started the job. I would not include in my resume.

Outside of the facility itself, there should be no paper trail showing you worked there. If anyone brings it up in the future (I don't see how they would possibly know), you can say, "I never worked any hours, never oriented, never received a paycheck, and never received a W-2. The employer offered me a position and agreed to accommodate my scheduled mandatory nursing school exam, but they later changed their mind and rescinded the offer."

If you never even started the job, it isn't necessary to put it on your resume or explain it to anyone. Good luck!!

I posted about a month ago how I didn't like the interview with her. I kind of had a feeling that I would not want to work for her. I guess its' a blessing. God is still good.

Use this as a lesson. ALWAYS trust your gut feeling.

I didn't once, and ended up breaking my foot the first week on the job at a place, and was stuck in pure hell until my foot healed twelve weeks later. And it was because I wasn't trusting my gut telling me to not even pull in the driveway of this place.

All the time. :) It sounds like it was for the best. It stinks being fired, but it would stink even more to work for someone you had a bad feeling about and they treated you like crud. You have experience, so that is a good thing and you will find something else soon.

I'm trying to look at the glass half full: At least I get to spend Thanksgiving with my family ( I already told them I won't be avail. for dinner due to working 3-11p) and I can focus more on school ( I graduate in 4 weeks). I'm going to stay focused and stay positive.

Big hugs, LoveJoy! Enjoy your Thanksgiving w/ the family. I'm sorry this happened to you. The DON sounds like a real piece of work. Something else better is just around the corner.

It wasn't meant to be for you. A rejection(fired) is never the easiest thing to deal with but at the end it grants you experience for future endeavors.

Since it was only orientation and you weren't there for a long time. Your not obligated to put it on your resume, or even address the situation in future interviews.

Brush yourself off, give yourself some positive reinforcement and move forward. I'm sure in the coming days or weeks, if your continue to search you will find the job that will fit you perfectly. Just wait, in your next position you won't even think twice of this facility that let you go. ;)

Good luck to you. :anpom:

BUMMER you were firer. They made you wait because they were wanted you to suffer.

I've been through it more than once so I know how you feel. BUT you get out of school in 4 weeks! You don't even have to put the place as a reference! You can say that you have been a student for five years, PSYCHODELIC! Send these loosers a Christmas card stating if you didn't firer me you could have an RN for the holidays. Don't worry about the future. These people can't do any thing to you. Have a Good Thanksgiving!
