Re: How much CNA orientation to ask for?
you are going to follow an aide for a few days, but beware, don't just stand there and watch-help out and anticipate what you are going to do next. you'll get an idea of the routine, but that doesn't mean you will get to know all the residents. and when you are on your own, you'll feel lost because everyone around you already has their routine. and you will probably feel weak physically because working as an aide really builds up alot of strength.
generally places have an info sheet on each resident, but for me going into a new place i figure i know how to be an aide, i know how to forsee peoples needs and all i really need to know about each person is
1. are they 'with it'? (cognitive level)
2. are they mobile? (how well do they transfer)
3. are they continent? (do i need to be checking their briefs?)
good luck!! you'll be glad you got this experience
