gift suggestions for ltc staff

I am looking for ideas for gifts for the staff where my mom is residing. (ltc)I am thinking food of some sort, but how to stretch that over a 24 hr period? Edible Arrangements,cookies, coffee? Pizza? UGH, HELP! If you work LTC then you would have first hand knowledge of what would be appreciated. I would like to honor each shift with something special, but what? Does not have to be food and money is not really an issue. Thanks for your help!

I work 2nd shift as an LPN in LTC. We have had several family members give us gifts of fruit arrangements, cookies and yummy deserts, pizza, coffee, boxes of chocolates etc. I even had a family who felt bad that we were working on the holiday and brought us full dinners! Turkey, stuffing, all the things that go with Thanksgiving...they also brought in food for us on Christmas evening..yummy! But I digress...

What our families did was get 3 of whatever it was they were bringing in. Each one was labeled 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 7-3, 3-11 and 11-7. The supervisor was given the goodies and she brought the assigned one out when the new shift arrived. Worked well. What was happening was whatever shift the gift was brought in on ate it all

I think anything you bring would be appreciated, food or otherwise, it is after all the thought...but what we REALLY appreciated was a notefrom the family to the DON, administration etc about the care we gave the resident. That last longer than food...its a great addition TO food though

Hooray!!!! You are already way ahead of the game just because you understand that all 3 shifts need their own goodies! And also a big Thank You for recognizing all the hard work it takes to take care of your loved one.

In my experience, especially around Christmas time, we get overloaded with candy and sweet stuff. Pizza or a sub platter with chips and 2 liters of pop is always a great idea.

PS: We love families like you! Not for the treats but the appreciation.

You could find out if the staff plans to have a holiday party and donate a raffle gift for that. Or, in my facility, we are having a pot luck lunch and Yankee Swap and you could donate a dish for that as well. The staff is grateful for any recognition of their hard work all year long. Just please remember no cash gifts for individuals as they are not allowed to accept these.

Pizza is great. It can be arranged prior with management that each shift gets fresh pizzas delivered. Remember, while it is wonderful to get stuff at the holidays from families, so many people focus on the sweets. Try having a fruit/vegetable platter made up for each shift. Something healthy to snack on is ALWAYS appreciated during the holidays when we get so overrun with sweets. ( i know this is posted a little late, but something to think about next year :) )

You could have pizza delivered twice for the 3 different shifts. Once around 2pm for days and evenings and at 10 for evenings and nights. :)
