I am awaiting the testing for certification. I sent my $ in January. They wrote back early Feb to verify my Association affiliation and to get proof of my degree. No word yet, and I don't know how long it will take. No one will call me back. ANyone know if it takes months to get this done?
The test looked really not too bad and I did the online prep through NYU Hartford and they have a sample test with answers.

I took and passed the test by the ANCC ten years ago...it cost a lot of money and to keep the certification, you have to take 75 hours of CEU's and pay MORE money. Since all it got me was another initial on my name tag, I didn't think it was worth the hassle to renew it. I've never worked for a place where they a) either pay you to become certified, or b) pay you more because you ARE certified.

I just wanted to add that I am a recently graduated RN who loves geriatrics. I have been working in this field since I was 17. I am currently 25 and find this to be the most rewarding field yet. But I did want to add that sadly a few of the RN's that I work with are Geriatric certified and they aren't making any extra money. Not saying that's every where but at least it's not at my work.
