Elder Abuse

by gardie

What training have you and your co-workers had about elder abuse? Does your state require a class to be taken about it?

I work for a rehab/nursing home, I can't tell you how many times I personally have had to sit through a meeting, video, or power point specifically regarding elder abuse. The majority of them leave you wanting not to say, do, or even think about something bad to anyone. I am almost certain that every state department of health services requires so many hours required by the facility every year to meet licensing criteria. If you have not received education on elder abuse, just ask, I'm certain that where you work will have a pamphlet, video, or handout about elder abuse. It's scary how common elder abuse occurs, and even more scary what constitutes "abuse."

We have never had to have any education on this. I work in a hospital in TX. To bad, it should be required.
