by Carla25

Hello,
I have a clinical at the nursing home on Monday, and we will have to do a head to toe on our patients can anyone tell me anything that I should do different than a regular head to toe??
Thanks

Do what you would do on a 'regular' head to toe. Pay special attention to skin issues especially on the coccyx, elbows, and heels...assess skin turgor as well. Don't assume because the person is old they are hard of hearing. That was one of my big mistakes as a student. "Honey, I may be old, but I'm NOT DEAF!!!" Range of motion is a good place to start. Warm up your stethescope and good luck.

Also , make sure you provide the most privacy as possible for the resident. Do a good bowel assessment ,the elderly often have problems with their bowels. Make sure you look at your diabetics feet, assess for color changes and open areas. Dont forget to look in their mouth ,if they have dentures make sure they fit right as this can really effect dietary intake. Make sure you assess for pain and check ..recheck the skin for breakdown...There is so much more Ill post after I wake up!!!
