It is how the brief is applied. If the brief is the wrong size and put on incorrectly it will blister. Have the sales rep in-service the staff in the correct way to put them on and that should solve to problem. fFrther the briefs do not take the place of good old soap and water in keeping the skin free of breakdown. Proper application and good skin care should solve the problem.
Looks like a diaper, smells like a diaper...IT IS A DIAPER!

I have not seen any blisters, however, occasionally there are some breakdowns.

The company rep was at my facility, maybe two years ago. Only about 25% percentage of the CNAs were there. The rep did not have any handouts for us. (I like handouts.)

(A little venting here ...) There is one CNA that has been there longer than any of the rest of us, who does not attend in-service, ("I don't need to attend as I've been here so long I already know how to do my job.") She tells / instructs us CNAs what, when, and how to do our job. Concerning briefs/diapers, she has told us: As the brief can contain 2-3 liters of urine, the resident need not be changed as often; That the size of the brief doesn't matter, if the resident is a heavy wetter, just put on a larger brief; That washing is not needed as the brief 'wicks' away the urine from the skin; ...

I try to use the correct brief, I wash, rinse and dry the resident before putting on a clean brief. She says that I take too long.

(Ok, so I do things slower than her ... I also don't watch as much TV as her .)

Sounds like that CNA has a serious problem which can translate into a serious problem for the residents. Have you talked with the charge nurse or the DON?

We use TENA, I think they are wonderful.

To that previous poster, would you rather wear a brief or a diaper?

I wish I knew what the brand name of the diapers that we use is. Unfortunately, they just come in a clear, plain plastic package. However, they seem to work rather well. I've noticed very little breakdown from the diapers themselves.

And no, I don't regularly call them "diapers" either. I call them depends.

These sound awesome but I don't see any nursing homes forking out the cash for them!

For dignity reasons. These residents already lost so much control in their lives and feel helpless. Why call them a diaper? That makes them feel even more helpless like a baby. Why make them loose dignity as well as their independence? I call them briefs or underpants b/c thats what adults wear.

They are not necessary if residents are toileted, cleansed and changed appropriately.

I've also ran across briefs that soemone put on too tight that causes this issue.

Another one of the biggest cause i'e seen is a brief being put on that's too small, so the tape separates in no time and gets stuck to the skin.

Because quite a few people associated the word 'diaper' with children.

And the labels for these products says "brief" .
