AACN geriontolgy "BC" cert exam

AACN doesn't have one for ger, just aspects of critical care, at least that I saw. You want the ANA's site:

Thanks for the website. The AACN is true to name as only for critical care nursing. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) does have board certifications for areas other than critical care such as: ambulatory care, Nurse Informatics, and Nurse Executive, etc.

eligibility criteria
> Hold a current, active RN license within a state or territory of the United States or the professional,
legally recognized equivalent in another country
> Have practiced the equivalent of two years full time as a registered nurse
> Have a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice in gerontological nursing within the last three years
> Have completed 30 hours of continuing education in gerontological nursing within the last three years

In regards to study material: ANCC Review and Resource Manuals

Worked in the field..took the test..passed the test. Most of it is information you would know if you'd worked the recommended hours in gerontology.

I also took the exam. I thought the prep book was useless. I didn't really study as I thought I didn't deserve to pass if I my experience wasn't enough.

I also wanted to get this certification. A coworker of mine said that a BSN is required. The webpage only lists RN as the requirement, anybody know which is required.

If it is the ANCC test, you now must have a BSN. Several years ago they allowed anyone with the required experience take the test but now it is BSN only.

Thanks for the response. Do you know of any certifications an Associates degree RN can get in gerontology. Seems stupid to only certify BSNs.

I agree with you, but as far as I know you have to have a BSN for any certification from the ANCC. If you feel you have the knowledge then use it and never mind the certification.
