11a-7p Shift?

Does anyone work an 11a-7p shift? Do you like these hours? I was offered this shift at my facility on the rehab unit. It would be a desk nurse position. Duties would include orders & admits. I am going to talk with DON tomorrow to find out specifics of position. I currently work midnights. I've worked nights for almost 6 years & am tired of being tired all the time. Plus my kids tell me I'm crabby & always sleeping...not the image I want them to have of me. My goal is to move into a position in the education/management area. Wondering if this type of move, more visible to administration, would help me achieve that goal. Any insight/thoughts would be appreciated.

Those hours always intrigued me. If nothing else, the commute seems like it would fall into place with better road conditions - volume and snow/rain conditions.

Nursing is so flexible. That shift is a good transition when coming from nights in my opinion. If you were asked to take the position by your manager or DON then most certainly it puts you in line for a management position.

I agree completely. My husband works those hours. It is NOT conducive to family life, that's for sure. When we have kids, I'm worried they will grow up without a father at home before they go to bed. I grew up that way with my parents. It sucked.

The job sounds wonderful but the hours suck. As Brandon said, your entire day is shot.
