Trying for Gwinnett Tech Fall 2013

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

So I am trying to get into gwinnett techs fall of 2013 class and i just wanted to start a forum for us to support each other and for info. I still have a couple pre reqs to take but im hoping to do well! Good luck everyone

I stalk the nurses at work. When they see my shadow, they turn around and say "Come on darling and look since you need to learn this anyway." Then I take a deep breath knowing that there are some great people lined up for us ready to help us every step of the way with this thing. Bugging nurses and taking deep breaths frequently keeps me with a level head....not to mention I am in the process of rearranging my entire life around my new chosen career path. Still excited! But seemingly calm since I am just transitioning from one phase to the next! :)

Hey Folks...so I guess now would be a good time to admit that I have been a lurker on this thread for many many many months, haha. I'm also waiting for my package and am very excited to get started. I have so much other stuff going on I have barely been able to focus on starting nursing school. I'm leaving my job in a little over a month and will take a few classes this summer before we start in August. I'm planning to get my CNA in a few months so I can work part-time while in nursing school.

Yup...ready to sign my life away for 2 years  LOL

I heard some info from friends who spoke to the program coordinator last week. One person was told that GTC didn't even look at anybody who scored less than 75 on the Kaplan. On another subject, another person, who dropped her form off in person to accept her spot, was told info packets would not be going out until the end of the month. Apparently the school is giving everybody the chance to accept their spot before sending all the packets out. I guess they want to send them out all at once. I'm so disappointed; I was hoping they would send the packet out as soon as they received the signed form.

I guess that means to start keeping an eye on your mailbox in about two weeks.

The waiting is KILLING me! :dead:

Yeah - I was also told that a Kaplan score of 75 is the minimum accepted, no matter how high the GPA. It's disheartening to know that so much rides on the results of one test. I am certainly glad to have made it, but I feel for those that worked so hard for so long building up a high GPA to get accepted - and then had it slip away in a few hours. Hopefully most of them will have the strength to continue striving for their goal.

I was wondering what grades you all have made for your Biology classes? I am retaking Anatomy 1 in the summer. Trying to apply fall 2013.

Thanks!

I hope you mean you're trying to apply for fall 2014 since acceptances for fall 2013 have already gone out.

Since GTC only looks at the prerequisite courses and your Kaplan score, the higher the grade you get in those courses, the better. Everybody I know who was accepted into the fall 2013 program received A's in all their science courses. That doesn't mean EVERYBODY did that, but all the people I know did.

Good luck!

Hi everyone!

I am a fall '14 hopefully, and was just wondering how repeated classes are calculated in the GPA? Do they take the highest of all attempts or are they averaged? Thanks!

Gtc takes the highest grade. Other schools averaged them. Hope this helps :)

I got all A's in my science courses. I agree with blue felt fedora that aiming for the highest grade is better. If you have a high GPA then if your Kaplan score is lower you may still be okay.

I hope they go blue with the uniforms this year. If anybody finds out about it for sure please let me know. :)[/quote']

I checked the Meridys website today and it shows royal blue uniforms under Gwinnett Tech! Hopefully this means they gave up the white ones!

I saw this ^ and had to go look for myself! It looks like the pants are royal blue, but the tops are still white. I'll take it. :-)

Thank goodness for the blue. I talked to a friend today who is about to graduate GTC's nursing program in a few weeks. She is in the all white and offered to sell me her used scrubs. Of course I was leaning towards declining due to a few stains and glad I did since the color changed! See you all soon! :)
