Gwinnett Tech Gunning for Nursing Fall 2014

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hey room! My name is Rachel. I am a pre-nursing student attending Gwinnett Technical College. Thus far, I have completed remedial math, Honors Psych, US History, Research Strat, Choices for Life, with strat and choices for GPC pre-reqs, but I transferred. I am currently taking College Algebra(Summer) and will begin science courses this Fall(2012). So the droop and withdraw rate at the college is and est. 50%. Holy guacamole...So, for my situation I am married, living at home with my husband's family and our 8 month old, Kaleb. I can't afford a babysitter so I work to days out of the week, which gives me plenty of time to play with my son :). I stay home during the day and take things slow, maybe to times a week when it comes to my class schedule.

That being said, I will begin Anatomy 1 and Lab. I chose the hybrid class for Tuesdays on campus from 6p-7:20, and then the same instructor for the Lab Tuesdays 7:30p-10:20. I am taking one science course at a time. So I should finish pre-reqs next Fall(2013). I anyone else doing something along those lines who wants a consistent study buddy. My hours are pretty fair and flexible too. I like working together for a common cause. If not, but still you are attending the school, and would like to share, by all means pls do. Thanks for reading and hopefully we can meet!

Have a Blessed week!

I think so. I want to so full time in Jan so i can afford childcare on campus. I'm thinking pathophysiology, human development, speech, and composition 2. I am worried about the writing and depth for anatomy. When it says nervous system for example, Idk if its that one section, or brain nervius, and all the other chapters. Maybe I should send Mrs "You know who" an email? Don't get me wrong, a and p were easy. But i wanna know how to manage my study time

I am registered to take human patho, human development, humanities and english 1102. Do you advise against taking on that much while studying for the kaplan? Im only doing full time so when my tuition assistance spot on the waiting list for the education center comes, ill be eligible to register my son.

Good morning ladies!

Came across this thread. I'm new to GTC as of Spring '14 and I am also a pre-nursing student. I'm a mother of ONE, went to school before and finally am getting back into things. I was wondering if every one was just over exaggerating or are the courses and the workload REALLY that difficult?

I expect to have to study and work to get a 3.75 GPA or better but that's just me. I'm interested in knowing where everyone is, who's been accepted and who's good to study with.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hey MO,

I too am a mother of one. Finishing my last prerequisite Micro. Ill be taking humanities human development and engl 1102 in spring while I prep and take the Kaplan RN entrance exam. Wont know about acceptance until the second week of April. I have a good GPA and feel good about my anatomy. A and P were the easiest classes for me so I know ill do fine there and in simple algebra. Where are you at academically?

Just found this thread YAY ?...

I'm currently taking my prerequisites at Gwinnett Tech. I'm a stay at home mum (work from home), a wife, and a mother to 2 lovely boys (my first is 18 months and the second is 8 weeks old). I have just A&P 1, 2, & Microbiology left and looking forward to apply to Emory or Gwinnett Tech at the end of Fall 2014.

I just registered for the "almighty" A&P 1 this morning and will appreciate any advise, meeting, thoughts, or concerns about this class. I'm actually wandering how possible it will be to take this class with an 8 weeks old (exclusively breastfeeding) newborn baby.

Between; I wouldn't want to bid my 4.0 farewell so I'm determined to put in my best to succeed at all cost regardless of the overwhelming task ahead.

Feel free to contact me at:

[email protected] I am a very friendly, humble, and lovely person to hang out/around with. I also love being amongst successful people. I will appreciate all kind gestures towards my success.

Thanks.

Oh yeah?

That's awesome.

I did take college algebra in my first semester at GTC and I had statistics this summer. I will try to figure out how to send a PM so I can ask you some questions. I'm so glad I just found a buddy on here. LOL.

RN_Student14, How is your program going? You close to the finish line? I know for us, the program is down to 4 semesters with summers off. Quick Kaplan question for you: In the printout the main lady gives us for what is covered in the ANP portion of the exam, is says Nervous and special senses. Those are in ANP 1 so since you said review ANP2, should I disregard those sections? Im studying now so I don't want to waste my efforts if I don't need to study that part. What has been your favorite part of the program? Can you give use an idea of how a day in the life is for a GTC RN student? Thanks so so much for all the info you gave/give us. It does wonders.

My advice would be to try and avoid doing multiple sciences. Many people struggled without little ones to boot. I wish you the best. Have your lecture notes done before they are covered in class. Review each section of those notes before class so you can be ready to answer a teachers question before they even finish asking it. It will show that you are a force to be reckoned with. Best of luck to you!

Trying to get through the stresses of not knowing what my fate is for the next few months.... anyone else? Im taking the Kaplan early to get my feet wet on what i need work on. what is everyone else doing to prepare?:zombie:

Hey guys,

I just took my Kaplan exam today and got an 80%, hopefully that will be enough to get me into the nursing program..wish everyone else luck too!

Finished the Kaplan a few hours ago with a 91. The writing section was pretty hard. Grammar! Grammar! Brush up on it!

My GPA is 3.8+, so feeling pretty good about getting in!
