U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello, I just applied to the Gordon State College ASN program last month, but I do not many others who have applied. I'm super nervous with this being my second time applying. I would like to stay up to date with others who are applying, so if anyone is out there looking for someone to talk to through this process, please respond! I'd like to know yall's stats. I know a lot of people like to ask what my stats were when i wasnt accepted last year, so they are as follows...

gpa: 3.0

critical thinking: 68

teas (no longer need): 67.8

I'll post my current ones once someone replies, plus I'd like to know yall's. thx!!

Thanks for the information Moon Pie. I've considered MGSC after seeing your post. Please come back to this post and let me know how their program is, if you don't mind - how many times a week are classes vs clinicals, do professors give PowerPoints to study from, when do clinicals start and how many days a week, etc, etc. Thanks and congratulations again! :)

Meep, thank you for the information on the categorical syllogisms. I have a friend who's taken a critical thinking test for another school. She says she remembers categorical syllogisms on the test also. :)

Brittleigh, congratulations on your graduation! Can you give us some information on the Gordon program, if you don't mind - how many times a week are classes vs clinicals, do professors give PowerPoints to study from, when do clinicals start and how many days a week, etc, etc. Can you give us some tips if we start the Gordon program? Thanks. :)

lienbert,

Each semester has a totally different schedule. To be honest, they have a COMPLETELY different curriculum now from when I started in January 2013. It has changed 180 degrees. So unfortunately, the schedule I had would not be too helpful for you. But you basically go four days a week for a couple of hours. You won't do much clinical your first semester (or at least we didn't). We had clinical simulation during most of my first semester with five clinical days at the end. Clinicals are either on Thursday or Friday and they last for eight hours until you get to your last semester in which you do a full twelve hour shift. You work 228 hours during that time. Like I said, it varies a lot with each semester!

Every professor I had gave PowerPoints they went by during lecture. I always studied by them with notes, plus I read the chapters because a lot of time, I needed more information. But that is just personal study habits.

All in all, it was a very hard program. I wanted to quit (and almost did) on three separate occasions. We started with 83 and graduated about 30. If you know nursing is your calling, go for it. Otherwise, stay away! It was rough. Gordon is very hard and prides itself on being that way. I think it is ridiculous and most of the professors don't care if you succeed or not. My advice is research all possible nursing schools and talk to people who have gone through the programs. That will give you the best idea on which one to attend.

I learned a lot from Gordon's program and I feel fully equipped to start my career. Plus everyone from our class has passed the NCLEX so far so that is a good standing! It just takes a lot of hard work, studying, and prayer. The tests are super hard but they are geared to be compatible with the NCLEX so it helps you in the long run. So with all that said, it is a great school for nursing if you have time, plus no social life, plus good study habits. You will do just fine with those components. :)

HIii Can you please let me know how you studied or what things you did to pass the test???
