Excelsior College for ADN good in GA now?

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I am a current CNA and currently taking pre reqs in order to complete my ADN. I have been taking some online classes for pre reqs but I am researching EC and wanted to if they are accepted here in GA as transfer credits by other local colleges or if an RN license from EC is recognized in the state of GA for work, if not, is it accepted in near by states like alabama?

Hi, I attend EC. Yes, Ga now allows Ga EC student to sit for the Nclex here, and to be licensed. But there are stipulations. They have all the details posted on the Ga Bon's website. Also,in order to be accepted to EC nursing program you have to be 1 of the following: LPN, Paramedics, Military corpsmen, Resp. therapists, or have completed 50% of the RN program @ a traditional school. Hope this helps....

Yes, its accepted in GA now but you must be an LPN or Paramedic. I dont think there allowing resp. therapists to sit any more (i could be wrong). We do have a perceptorship of b/t 350-750hrs depending on work experience etc...I'm sorry but CNA cant do the program here in GA. But maybe you can in another state. Hope this helps.

It is accepted by AL. For GA, you have to complete an additional 700 hours of clinicals. it is best to check with the Ga Board of Nursing though, they are constantly changing. Are you an LPN? I believe you also have to be an LPN for the Excelsior program.

The word is, DON'T DO IT." Nearly all employers frown heavily on Excelsior graduates and will NOT hire them. I know for a fact that certain states including California won't grant you a nursing license if you went through this mickey mouse program.

JaninAZ you should be careful how you respond to the post here. Anyone that is an LPN working hard toward their RN through Excelsior maybe offended by your " mickey mouse program" comment. Futher more I dont think there is any thing "mickey mouse" about that program, those student study their tail off to get where they want to be with that program.

I do agree with you about GA accepting Excelsior grads, this is the main reason I'm attending GPC. Better safe than sorry.

Relax already. Granted they working hard. I never alluded otherwise. However, going the Excelsior route will most certainly limits one's marketability. This is indisputable. Try talking to a few nurse recruiters. We are currently living an employers market. Therefore, employers can afford to be choosy- and they are. "Why are so many nurses so miserable?"
