Chamberlain BSN program opening in Atlanta???

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I went on the Georgia Board of Nursing Website to look again at the list of schools and what programs they offer. I see that Chamberlain has been added. I live in IL currently, moving to Atlanta in the spring/summer of 2012 and hopefully starting a BSN program in the fall of 2012. Chamberlain is one of the more popular schools in my area, so I am familiar with them. I would say 1/3 of my pre-req classmates are applying to the Chamberlain near me.

Anyone have any info on when they will start enrolling for the new Atlanta campus? Maybe there are some creditable rumors out there. I see that they are hiring from looking at the job listings on their website, so can't be too long??? The address puts it right by Northside and St. Joseph's Hospital.

The tour went well. The lab and the facility is very impressive. I decided to go ahead and apply for the Fall.

I have an appt next week and have been looking at the costs. I have done comparative costs between Gwinnett Tech (ADN), NGCSU (ADN), GSU (BSN) and Chamberlain (BSN).

Chamberlain is very expensive....$650 per credit hour or $7,800 + $250 student fee for 12-17 hour semester load.

GSU was the 2nd most expensive in my comparision....12 hours at GSU is $4,000 (includes student fee)......15+ hours is $4,705 (includes student fee).

Maybe I'm missing something. I will find out for sure when I go next week, but right now it looks like it is twice as much!

The tuition cost is decreased if you have previous credits to transfer in.

Has anyone heard anything about this program? I noticed the program listed on the GA Board of Nursing as a new program. I am scheduled to go take a look at the campus on Wednesday to see what its all about.

Definetly. I do have many credits to transfer in. That doesn't change the fact that their cost is almost double of GSU per credit hour. So, regardless of how many hours you need, you will be paying a lot more.

Yeah, youre right, but to each his own ya know?....the cost of education is out the roof almost everywhere now days.

You have to consider that they offer a FROM SCRATCH 3 yr program and they have no cap on the number of student they accept. So it a individual choice. I suggest for financial aid reasons that you research scholarship and other aid.

Specializes in Medical-Surgical, Pediatrics.

So for those that went to the meeting, did you get a chance to meet the instructors? Did they give you information about clinical and the nursing classes?

When I stopped by, the instructors were not there, they had already left. I was told that the clinicals are held at Northside, Piedmont, St. Joseph's, and a few other locations that I forgot about. I do know that they are not having clinicals at Emory just yet.

I went to the open house this past Tuesday, and met the Dean and a couple of faculty/staff members. The campus is nice and very high tech. I definitely feel that there will be an intimate feeling in the classroom. It is expensive, but also remember that it is a private school, so compared to Emory or Mercer's nursing program costs....it's in the same range and/or cheaper. I am going to apply for the September 3rd start. I'm hoping that my courses transfer from my previous dedree which will reduce the total time and costs that I will have to spend at Chamberlain. In regards to clinicals, they pretty much said they have contracts with St. Josephs, Northside, Grady, Piedmont as said above, and other facilities (maybe nursing homes, etc.). Not sure about Emory either.

Also, the tuition is only decreased if they accept your transfered in classes as a whole. For example, the whole 3 year program is approx $70k, it you transfer in enough classes to knock out the pre-requisites, it will knock your time down to a little over 2 years which is approx $46,800($7800 x 6 semesters) Seeing as though most of us have taken the pre-requisites because they were needed to apply to most nursing programs in GA, we will be looking at the lower figure. Hope this makes sense.

I'm applying too! The facility made me more interested as well. And then again, the history behind the school/program itself is very interesting. I'm in the process of gathering all my materials now.

Specializes in NONE.

I applied as well and I'm very excited. I've been taking my prereqs for quite sometime now. I can't wait to find out if I got accepted or not. Hope to see you all there.

Specializes in NONE.

You can only take the HESI exam twice.
