Average night shift differential??

I am relocating to Atlanta-ish in a few months, and I will be looking for a night shift job. Can anyone give me an idea of what the differential is out there?? Is is a dollar amount? a percentage?? does it vary greatly from hospital to hospital?

Here in AZ, I the night differential is 20% of base pay from 7p-7a.

I know it varies from hospital to hospital. At Wellstar it is around $5/hour.

I just spoke witha recruiter at CHOA and she quoted around $3.25/hr for weeknight and $6.50 for weekend night. Hope that helps. That was for NICU. No idea other hospitals or units.

@bethm7: Are you going to begin working at CHOA? Just wondering how long the process was to get a position there?

@jib1985: No I was just thinking of relocating. My husband was being recruited to ATL but think we may turn it down. I filled out an application on a weekend and the NICU recruiter called me on Monday! She said they were very interested. But I just asked her questions and told her we weren't sure if we were even moving so I would get back to her if interested. I do have 12 years of Level 3 NICU experience so i think that helped.

Those quotes for CHOA are accurate. I was just hired on as a New Grad RN. It's 3.25 from 3P-11P, 4.75 from 11P-7A, then 6.00 for weekend 3P-11P, and 6.50 from 11P-7A. Most hospitals around Atlanta don't work on a % system but actual dollar amounts and vary from $3-6. Hope that helps!

I had my Senior Practicum in the PICU at Scottish Rite, applied in October, interviewed for both Scottish Rite and Egleston in November, took the PEDS entrance exam in Nov. along with my HR interview, then I found out on the last day of class in Dec. I had the job! I'm currently on orientation now and super excited to start. I am entering the New Grad Residency program, which will be yearlong classes along with a mentor. If you have any other questions just let me know!

Currently, I'm doing my practicum at Johns Hopkins Peds ER. Is Scottish Rite really big on taking people who are already 'in the door'? I graduate this Dec and I'm just nervous with the entire application process. I really want to come back to Atlanta. I grew up there...

Hi! Sorry I just saw your post...Not sure about the base pay for Scottish Rite. I know one of my classmates who was hired there got around $23. At Egleston it's $22.34. I think having your practicum in a pediatric setting is a great advantage and they will definitely take that into consideration, especially since it's ER! So don't give up!

Hey pjp2u2, how are you liking the PICU? I'm doing my practicum in one of the CHOA PICUs now, and I'm interviewing for both the NICU and the PICU. I'm not sure which one I want the most, but I really like the PICU a lot. I'm really excited to have options!

Hi Elizanne!

I just saw your post. I love my job :) Honestly, I am always excited to go to work and see who my patients who will be. My co-workers say I'm in my "honeymoon" phase lol... I am glad you are loving your practicum! That is definitely a great way to gauge whether you should stay in the PICU or not. You will see alot in the PICU; dealing with difficult social situations and sad patients. But there are great outcomes as well! Let me know if you have any other questions.
