Applied for tons of jobs but no call backs (Georgia)

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello nurses and future nurses, I moved to Georgia in November 2011, I have been looking for a job ever since. I got a job offer 2 weeks after being here but it was a temp position and that assignment ended in April. I have been putting in application non-stop everyday for every healthcare facility I know. I even had an interview and the HR person was telling me how difficult it is for nurses to get a job here in Georgia because it is so saturated (the schools just spit the nursing students out here), also when I told her my expected salary was $27/hr she told be I needed to come down a bit. OK look I don't mind coming down $1-2 but that's it. What is going on I make sure I am professional, I have a lot of experience, stable work history that shows longevity, and a professional resume. I need a job ASAP. I come from a small town where it is easy for nurses to get a job. I'm not use to this big city living. I am on the verge of leaving and going back to Indiana where I know I can get a job and the pay I want! Any advise??

Also thank you for referring me to indeed.com I had never heard of that site and just applied to a ton of positions and companies I didn't know about! You Rock!:w00t:

Congrats on your new job. I am planning to relocate to GA in the next couple of months. I always see tons of openings at all the hospitals..now I may have to reconsider if it's that hard to find a job there. Aside from that, how are you enjoying GA?

Hi onegoodnerve, before I relocated to Georgia (Atlanta) I put tons of applications in and we finally moved I continued to put applications in I got my Georgia license and a temp agency called me within two weeks of me being here but that cam to an end in April. But even while working the temp RN position I continued to put applications in everyday and even up until this job. I have had nurses tell me that's why they aren't working as a nurse because they can't find employment because it's so copetitive here in Georgia they have so many Nursming schools and everyone graduates at the same time. Yes, they have tons of openings but aren't doing any hiring so of those same jobs that were posted before I got here are still posted. The only places that want to hire you are temp agencies and travel nursing I can't do travel nursing I have a husband and a 13 month old son. I went on this one interview and they asked me how much I was seeking to be paid and I said $27-30/hr and she said you're going to have to come down because no ones going to pay you that much, I was like excuse me. Mind you I was making that in Indiana (a small town at a small hospital) this is a BIG city and they don't want to pay plus I have tons of experience and the job offer I excepted I am making in the price range I quoted her. But thank GOD I never gave up I was almost at that point even though I didn't have to work I wanted to because I didn't spend 4 yrs. in college for nothing and $45,000 just to sit on my behind. I wish you the best of luck in your job seeking. Do not give up and just because this happened to me does'nt mean it'll happen to you, you might get a job before you even get here or as soon as you get here! Goodluck!:nurse:

I like Georgia so far, the only thing I don't like is all this traffic HORRIBLE!

Thank you for the encouragement! I am so glad everything worked out for you. I'm surprised the pay is so low there. I live in the Midwest too (St. Louis) and I am in that same pay range, I was hoping for a decent pay increase once I moved. I was just there last week researching neighborhoods and it seemed like there was a hospital on every corner..you wouldn't think it would be that hard to land a job especially with experience. Oh well, it will all work out in the end. Congrats again on your new job:cheers:
