Absolutly Terrified of applying now...

U.S.A. Georgia

I'm about to finish of applying to five different nursing schools in GA:

Georgia State University

Georgia College and State University

Georgia Southwestern State University

Kennesaw State University

Georgia Baptist Nursing School (a part of Mercer University)

I've been reading and researching like crazy about the different nursing programs and what it takes to get into nursing schools. All it's lead me to was a mass discouragement and wanting to give up on the whole idea of even applying.

My gpa is a 3.02, my prerequisites are mostly Bs with at least one A and C. I haven't taken my TEAS just yet, and the way i'm feeling right now, i'm not sure how it's going to go.

I will have a bachelor's in psych in a couple of months, i have a truckload of research experience and volunteer hours (but most of those hours do not have anything to do with healthcare). I've shadowed nurses a couple of times, so i know this is what i want to do.

I really need some encouragement, or a reality check...

Has anyone got into any of these BSN progrms with a similar gpa? Does anyone have any ideas of how i can still someway miraculously get into a program? How was the TEAS and how hard did you have to study to get the score you did?

Thanks for helping, i need as much information as possible...

Did you apply to GSW??

Don't give up. Send in your applications and see what happens.

Why limit yourself to only BSN programs though? Don't get me wrong, ADN programs are also super competitive to get into these days. But I would broaden my horizons if I were you. I know a lot of people want to shoot for the BSN right from the start but if you don't get into a BSN program but manage to get into an ADN, end result you will be an RN at the end and you can bridge to BSN when completed. I know it would take longer than you would probably like, but like my grandma used to say, sometimes you've got to go around the mountain to get up that mountain.

Good luck!

Do not ever give up on yourself or your dreams! You can do this; one way or another... My cumulative GPA was a 3.16 and my certification GPA (prereq courses required for BSN) was 3.36. I just got my acceptance letter to VSU's Traditional BSN program for Fall 2010. I did pretty well on the TEAS (80something%), but all that they required was that I pass the national average. I didn't have to study too hard for it; I mostly just brushed up on conversions and measurements (and a little science). I had the ATI study guide and took the practice exam online. I don't have your research experience, volunteer hours, or shadowing hours so maybe at some of those schools it'll give you an edge. VSU bases it off of cert. GPA and passing the TEAS and that's it as far as I can tell. Good luck on getting into your program of choice!
