Worried / question about low GPA

Hi all,

I had a question for anyone who has or had a low GPA. I got good grades in A & P but in all my other classes, mainly the labs I got C's in. Well I'm at a 2.85 GPA and I'm worried to death that I won't be able to bring it up this semester. I'm worried about Chem lecture and the Micro Lab not the lecture:o

Did you guys find it hard to bring your GPA up to a 3.00?

I'll be happy with that. I'm also worried because in my program you have to keep a 3.00 gpa. I haven't started the nursing classes yet but it seems to me that if you can't keep a 3.00 with pre-req's it's gonna be harder with Nursing classes.

I'm so worried that it just hit me this morning that I'm going back to school on Monday

Please tell me how you guys did it... Is it hard to bring it up?

Um, study well and more often.

Are you currently in the nursing program? How are they dealing with your GPA below their requirements?

I can't really say how difficult it is to raise your GPA to a 3.0. It doesn't seem that many points away from your current GPA. I'd think a few good grades would pull it up.

I had a low g.p.a. too ( much much much lower than you) yes, its a challenge to bring it up, but I think the biggest challenge and the single thing thats the most deciding is believing that you can do it. Go into those classes with the idea that you're gonna do great. period. then don't let anything stop you. I know, easier said than done. You responded to my post about the anxiety so you know I know where you're coming from. You're gonna do fine when you get into the school, because you'll know how hard it was to get there. Just believe in yourself. Whats the minimun requirement for getting into your program of choice? You're very close to a 3.0, you can do it.

Worry changes nothing, absolutely nothing. Battles are won in the mind. Be confindent and determined. Every semester I mentally prepare myself for each class. This is what works for me. I do not allow myself to fall short. Good luck and lighten up. Be good to yourself!

Been there, still there! I attended college about 11 years ago, did really horrible. I decided to return to school 2 semesters ago, starting out with a 2.4GPA. My nursing department requires a 2.5GPA. I got a 3.0 last semester, so I am at like a 2.58 now! Woohoo!! My biggest worry is that the program is so competitive at my school, that I am afraid I won't get accepted as I am being compared to all those other students who have 3.0 and higher. I know I can do the work, I just need to prove myself I guess. My advisor says they look at my current semester grades, not what I did 10 years ago. I just pray every day that she is right, and not just trying to make me feel better. You are so not alone with these feelings. I want in so bad I can't hardly stand it! I also have micro this semester, and I have heard from this board and several students that it is a very fun, interesting class, and not to be afraid. GOOD LUCK!!!

If you want your GPA to be higher this is the only tip I can give you. Study hard! I mean put school first. Spend as many hours as it takes to learn what you need to learn. You will do fine. If you need help ask for it. Buddy up with the smart people. They can and will help you. Make sure your lab partners are as smart or smarter than you. this is very important. They may be able to explain it better than a professor. Above all else tell yourself that you can do it and you will. Tell yourself you can't and you won't!

Good luck to you and here to seeing a 4.0 on your next report!

Try to take some "grade booster" classes that you are good at. For me, it was the psych classes that raised my GPA. Also, can you get a tutor?

That's not too much of a difference-you can do it! Be very involved this semester--study partners and groups really can help your grades...it really makes you make time for studying and forces you to be prepared--which helps me, the procrastinator! (unless you get a dud, then switch!!) Involvement is always a good message to send to your instructors! Good luck-you'll do fine :D

Well the way my school does it: Once you are accepted into the School of Nursing, they map out when you are supposed to start the actual nursing classes as long as you have a 2.75 GPA and C's in all science classes. Because I'm still taking pre'qs I'm considered a pre-clinical student.

Now I'm schedule to start in Fall but when I'm doing the nursing classes I have to keep a 3.00 GPA.

Thanks for all your anwers you guys.

I will start fresh this semester and try not to worry about it no more.

Of all the jobs I applied for, only one really asked me about my GPA. Many do not. Your grades do not mean you would be a poor nurse. Do the best you can. If it doesn't work out, another door will open. It doesn't mean you're a failure, it means there is something else that you are more suited for. Good luck!

Yes, I can totally related. I started nursing school with a 2.8 GPA. I have never made dean's honor roll back in pre-req's days. I am starting my last semester with a 3.02 GPA and if I get all A's this semester which I know I am capable of doing I will be graduating with a 3.1 GPA. Not bad for someone who started their first semester of college with a 1.5 GPA and worked like mad each and every year to build her GPA up. It is a challenge but you have to become truly dedicated to your studies if you want a higher GPA. You have to sacrifice something that can be sacrificed. It may have to be watching your favorite T.V. show, it may have to be not having an immaculate house for a while, it may have to be becoming organized and cooking/freezing your dinners ahead of time. It may have to be giving up your social life if you have one.

I gave a lot more study time and It has worked. I consider school and study a full-time job and nothing less than full-time. I stay at school when we get out early and STUDY, STUDY, STUDY. You can do it if you really believe and work for it.

Many people find my story hard to believe especially since I had my 1.5 GPA at the end of my VERY first full-time semester of college which was back in August 1998 and 2.8 my first semester of nursing school which for me was Jan. 2001 but I can easily prove it and if you came to my house today I would be able to pull out my latest grade card and prove my GPA currently stand at a 3.02.
