I am working as a PCT for a children's hospital in the CVICU unit while in nursing school, and I love it! I have one more year to go, and they have strongly "hinted" multiple times that they would hire me upon graduation.
I love working here, however I also need adult ICU experience before applying to a masters degree nursing program in about 4 years or so.
Do you think it would be possible to work in an adult ICU full-time and at the pediatric CVICU part-time at nights? (I love night shift work. I'm weird, I guess). Anyone out there doing this: part-time and full-time work? What about full-time and full-time work? I know people who do this, but I'd like to hear more views.)
I don't want to burn out, so I think part-time + full-time work would be good for me. Working at the children's hospital actually energizes me! Thanks for your expertise and input! Let me know about your experiences with this!

- May 12, '12 by TweetyYou're not weird in liking night shift. I used to be a hard core night shift worker for 13 years and loved it.
Lots of people work two jobs, or overtime at the job they have. I know someone that works six 12-hour shifts a week in two places.
It's going to be difficult for you as a new grad to find a part time position. No one is going to want to orient you to adult ICU as a new grad for a part time position. Get your experience in the CVICU and then perhaps you can apply for a part time position in adult ICU.
Also, doing two new grad orientations for two jobs at the time time isn't worth the stress. Do one job first for now.
In my opinion.
All the best!
