Zocor's mechanism of action is to reduce the enzyme HMG-CoA, which is an enzyme needed in the synthesis of cholesterol. Zocor inhibits this enzyme.
Peak cholesterol synthesis occurs between midnight and 3am so this is when you want the peak drug concentration.

I'm thinking maybe it's more effective when working overnight when you're sleeping and not eating? Maybe if taken during the day, it will attack the chol in food and not really treat the root of the problem. Or it could have something to do with liver problems.

I couldn't find anything either, although my PDR said that it can be taken BID, just not initially. It also has to be given 30 min before meals.

    Maybe I'm way off.
