Why Do You Sleep In Class?

Why do people bust their butts to get into the nursing program and then fall asleep during the lecture? These people sit down front, in front of the teacher.

We have 2 guys who seem to only show up to get the best nap of their lives. Funny, one guy passed the test with no problem, and the other guy has failed sterile dressing changes, and even fell asleep in our clinical meeting. It was only 12 of us, so we tried to talk over the snores.:(

I want to choke these people sometimes.

Thanks for letting me vent. This wouldn't normally bother me, but just looking at them sleep burns my be-hiney.

Oh my GOD! I know you are upset over this but it was so funny... Only 12 of you and he is snoring... LOL! Maybe they are doing night jobs???

O.K. how about this one. We went to our clinical sites for the first time yesterday to get an in depth tour of our units. Our instructor had a pt. chart in the lounge with all 7 of us (we are split up in very small groups), and this girl falls asleep in the chair. Our instructor is new and didn't say anything, but I bet any of the other instructors would have ripped her a new one. What makes me sick is that there are 200 other people that want her seat and got denied acceptance and she sleeps. I hate that.

We have a few that catch a few ZZZZ's in class, but our class is 100 people, pretty easy to hide in there, but 12!!! OMG that is too funny. Although I am sure your not laughing, and its rather rude to you, your classmates and the teacher!!!

I hear ya Bucky. 300 people applied for our program. 30 were accepted. 1 girl routinely naps. 2 others tend to doze off. We throw stuff at them. Oh and we took some pictures too.....Heeheeeheee. No sense in getting angry, can't control their behavior. So we just get obnoxious about it. I mean really what are they going to say? It's not like they are working nights. The folks who are working 16-40 hours are totally busting their butts and staying awake...just rambling now...

Tres

Maybe you all could draw mustaches on them. Or you put mascara goop on their fingertips, then tickle their face, when they itch their face, it get's all black, very funny! :chuckle Or drop seeds/corn etc into their hair. Bring hair coloring spray and go to town. :clown: heee heee. Gee, It would be kinda fun to have a sleeper in class, just so we could all have fun! Heather

Let 'em sleep. It beats the loud mouthed chickens that never shut up in the back row of my class this year.

I know what you mean.. I hate both the sleepers and the loud mouths. Not to mention the people that come in 10/15 mins late EVERYDAY. I sometimes wonder why these people even bothered applying for nursing.. or college at all for that matter.

Theres one girl in my AP class thats in the Nursing program with me.. I was with a group of friends.. all quizzing each other before the test.. we asked her to join.. and she said.. Oh I didnt study at all.. its just the first test :o I know shes the nurse I want!!!

I don't have any sleepers in my program, but there is one who won't study, won't fill out her position forms, and is constantly kissing up to the teacher saying stuff like "i'm gonna fail, I'm gonna have to drop out, I don't get this" etc

Well maybe if you studied and did your homework and quit whining all the time, you would know what you are doing on tests and in the lab.

This really just irks me because there are so many others who applied that would probably work their butts off.

Preach on sister, preach on! :p ;)

When I was in school I used to pinch my wrists to stay awake. We had one teacher who lectured word by word from the text which most of us had read already. She had a monotone voice. Does your instructor have a monotone voice?

I'll be brave and admit that I fall asleep in class occasionally. But ONLY because I am doing nothing. For example, in my microbiology class, we do not need to take notes because our textbook consists of a packet he made, which are the notes. So, for 3 hours beginning at 8 am when I didn't get off work until 11:30 and had to get up at 6:30 to commute for the 3rd day in a row, I fall asleep.(not complaining, though) If I was taking notes or something on the other hand, I probably wouldn't have fallen asleep. But, I do everything in my power to stay awake.

I also slept during the mandatory adult abuse video, only because I had already seen it and I couldn't fight sleep anymore. I also work 40 hours a week and attend school full-time and I pass my classes with excellent grades.

So, I guess.... maybe I'm a bad nursing student, eh, I don't know. But I don't go to class just to sleep. Why drive 35 miles to do that when I can stay in my own bed.

Sometimes, you just can't help it.
