I will be applying to my schools nursing program in Feb for the fall.

My school goes by a point system and it is just hard to get into it (like many of you here). I have the highest points possible for GPA and classes completed (done with them all for ADN, still working on BSN pre-reqs). We also have points from the COMPASS test and I have all the maximum points on that for reading and writing but still need to up my pre-algebra points.

I've been spending my break here studying for the math/pre-algebra portion of them exam.

I'm also looking into volunteering at the Cancer Center at my hospital for an extra 2 lousey points (but hey 2 points could make or break me getting into the program!). I think the experience would be great though, even if all I an do is a few hours a week.

So who all else will be applying soon for next fall?

I'm appling for next fall. I'm sorta freaked out...worried I won't be accepted but I'm sure I have nothing to worry about. I have almost all of my bonus points and I'm retaking the NLN to try to earn more points now that I've had a year of A&P and more algebra.

I also need to do more volunteering but I really can't stand it. There's not much they allow you to do so I get bored pretty easily. Oh well. The more I do the more bonus points I get. All of my classes are done so I just have to hope for the best!

Well,

I won't be applying for nursing school, but I will be applying to take my state boards!!! Finally graduate this spring!!! :roll :roll :roll

Me! I've got all my "fluff" prereqs done (the ones that aren't science). Entrance into my school (I live in a smallish town about an hour and a half away from the two major cities, and there is only one CC here with a nursing program) is based ONLY on NET scores - they take the top 100 scores. It's fairly competitive, but I've always done well on tests and I'm confident that I'll get in.

My one concern is that the CNA course has to be completed before first day of fall semester, and there's only one CNA course offered in the summer, and apparently people camp out in front of the registration office at 6:00 AM in order to get a slot in this course, so I'm concerned that the class will be filled and I won't be able to take it, which means I won't be able to start the nursing program in the fall.

I'm taking the entrance exam, this April...but it's for the summer of 05 classes :o .

Good luck to you all!

I am applying for the RN program that begins this summer at my school. I have a good GPA and some of my core courses completed so hopefully I will get in. For the winter program 170 students applied for 75 positions, the school ended up taking 100, so I am starting to get nervous about being accepted. Say a prayer for me.

Ive been accepted into an LPN program starting in June, but that is my backup plan. Im also applying to an ASN program in February that starts in August. I guess I am lucky because the school Im applying to doesnt use the point system. There is an early acceptance period for those who have completed all pre reqs, first come first serve. Then there is the application period for general apps, and they admit on a rolling basis(first come first serve). They do take in to consideration the number of prereqs completed (I have most of them completed). but not test scores or gpa as long as u meet the minimum requirements.

I think I have a pretty good chance as long as I go the day that the application period starts. I think I may have to camp out there because last time I applied for the LPN I was there first thing in the morning and ppl were lined up throughout the building already! I was still early enough but I ended up on the alternate list because there was a screw up with my transcripts from another school. argh!!! So there is still a chance of going for my LPN at this school too, which starts in February! If they call me Im going to that for sure! this school had an LPN-RN bridge and if u graduate from their program u can go straight in...but if u graduate from a different school they require 1000 hrs documented experience. keeping my fingers crossed, that would be awesome!

I too, am applying for my program this spring which starts in August. My school also goes by a point system, and if you dont have a 4.0 GPA, you can be sure you will be placed on stand-by or have to wait until next year, and then re- apply. I am praying that I do get in this year, because to be totally honest, I am WORN OUT with working night shift full time, and then going to school full time. When I start the clinical portion in August, I will no longer be working full time, probably just on weekends.

Hey keep everyone posted on how you do and GOOD LUCK!

I want to apply to start in the fall but I have to take the NLN entrance exam on the 26th of Jan and it might be too late.

Anyone know how long it takes to get test results?

I will turn in my Spring 05 application on August 15th. I have 2 pre-requisites to complete - Chem (taking now) and then A&P I in the summer. Last semester about 165 qualified applications applied (more turned in apps but didn't meet the minimum requirements) and they took 100. The lowest GPA was a 3.03. I have a 4.0 so far in the pre-requ.s they are interested in (I have a 3.3 GPA with an Accounting degree).

The thing I'm worried about is that the volunteer work I'm doing is the wellness committee at work and teaching sunday school. I think it would look better if I was volunteering at a hospital or with hospice etc. But I'm not willing to give up what I'm doing to do that instead, so I'm hoping that my grades will be so good that won't be a big deal. At least I can cite something as volunteer activities. I feel the pressure to get A's in the 2 classes now, and I'm working full-time, with kids....jeez.

At my school (private, Catholic), they say it's GPA on pre-requs, then overall GPA, then essay and to a lesser extent ACT score. I have a great ACT (31) but it's 22 years ago!

:chuckle

I am trying to set up an appointment with a Nursing advisor to talk over what I'm doing and get advice. I hope she can point out my chances of getting in, and maybe things I should consider to improve them.

Could you tell me which school you are trying to get in? I think you and I are living in the same area and I live 15 mins from Disney world. The information I've got from VCC is 400 applicants compete for 100 seats. I'm wondering if you're in the same school. I'm trying to apply for Spring 05 there too and am working hard to get all my pre-reqs (general and science) done.

AC439 & Tinuviel,

I live in Central FL too. Im in Daytona beach right now but Im moving to Orlando in two weeks. Im admitted into an LPN program that starts in June at Orlando Tech, and Im applying to Seminole Community College in Lake Mary for their RN program that starts in August. Have you looked into their program? Its pretty much first come first serve if u meet the minimum requirements but ppl who have all prereqa get in first.

My guess is you all are looking at Valencia and/or UCF. On UCFs website the nursing application is dated 2006!!! Is this true that they are taking apps for 2006 right now??? Thats crazy!

I dont know if either of you have considered LPN first and then the bridge program to become an RN, but Orlando Tech has an LPN program that starts in June part time (18 months) and August full time (12 months). And Seminole Community College has an LPN program each February. their web page is http://www.scc-fl.edu. Im on the alternate list for this February(fingers crossed) because I applied early but there was a mixup with my transcripts. I would choose Seminole over Orlando Tech, but if I dont get in this time around at SCC Im going to Orlando Tech this June. But either is a good option around the tough competition for the schools that rank u by a point system.

their RN program starts twice a year(one day program and one night and weekend trac). They have a partnership with UCF where is only takes I believe two semesters to get your BSN.
