Which Specialty? - Page 3
Register Today!- Aug 19, '12 by afterseasonI'd really like to do NICU or PICU, or do L&D and then branch into Midwifery.
- Aug 19, '12 by badwolfI'm staying open until I have done some clinicals and worked as a CNA. All of the nurses I know say that what you think you want to do usually changes.
- Aug 19, '12 by OnMyWay23I have not even started clinicals (this week) and I have already changed my mind. The whole time I was doing pre reqs I swore that the only thing I wanted to do was developmental disabilities. I have 2 children that are on the spectrum and one that was born with one kidney. Developmental disabilities is close to my heart and I will always advocate for it. However, while I was doing some searching around and just reading things on the internet, I decided that I just want to be a nurse working with individuals in an underserved area. I already talked it over with my husband and after we have both graduated (he is a semester behind me with his degree), we will move where ever that may take us. I want to help those that really need it, and this is one way I can
- Aug 19, '12 by StephalumpThis question gets asked a lot and my general answer is always "I don't know.". But I do know that I've always wanted to go into community health, and I'm really, really hoping to find my way there and continue my education as an APN on that arena. If not, I have a host of other possible things I might like.
OnMyWay23 likes this. - Aug 24, '12 by Racer15ER. My number one request for practicum was ER and I am going to be very disappointed if I don't get placed there (find out in about a month!). If not ER, probably ICU, as I am interested in becoming a CRNA and I'll need the experience with the vents. I know where I DON'T want to work, and that would be any med-surg floor.
- Aug 24, '12 by SkipsAnything OB is fine with me.

....but it seems to be like that for everyone, so I'm not getting my hopes up that I'll end up there anyway. I'm trying to get some volunteer experience in a related area, and get excellent grades, and buddy up with the OB instructor. Sigh. I'm working so hard to get into that specialty!
Wanting to work in the ED seems to be a pretty popular idea in my nursing class. - Aug 24, '12 by iluvpathoQuote from Me-erThanMeI loved OB but I was very surprised that only 2 other girls out of my 75 person class enjoyed OB at least taht I know of. All of my clinical group actually hated itAnything OB is fine with me.

- Aug 24, '12 by PinkCupcakeHands down for me it would be ER. I love not knowing what's coming through the doors and the fast pace of it. For a little bit I thought I'd like L&D but I think I'd get bored...oh look another pregnant woman....
- Aug 25, '12 by RainbowDashER/Trauma for me, please! I've known it's what I want for years. The frenetic energy, the constant variations, the running around like a lunatic... it all suits me so well. We don't do an ER rotation in my school as far as I am aware, but you can bet your bottom dollar I will beg for it for my practicum!
- Aug 25, '12 by SkipsGoodness! I guess each class is quite different. Maybe it was that particular unit that didn't make them want to to pursue that specialty. =/
