Where would you want to go?

I'm in kind of a special situation. This quarter in clinical I have primarily been on an advanced care unit, but we also get rotated out to CICU, and one day each in ER and the cardiac cath lab. I have an extra week of CICU at the end of the quarter, which was fine with me because I enjoy it. But today I had my midterm eval with my instructor and she suggested I might want to think of another place I wanted to travel for that week since I will have had my share of CICU.

The only place I could think of was another ER day or two (I had so much fun, and successfully started an IV!!!) but I know that this may be my only quarter with so much freedom to choose where I want to visit, so I'm trying to think of other options. Something adult, anyway, because I haven't had peds/OB yet, so I don't think I would be comfortable dealing with kids yet.

So, if you were given this chance, where would you want to travel? Or, where was your favorite place you spent in clinical?

What about a possible outpatient surgical rotation? Maybe a wound care or clinical specialist rotation? never hurts to ask!

BTW, my surgical rotation is in 2 weeks and I CANT WAIT!!!!

I'd say any ICU or the ER. Those were always the best clinicals.

depends on what YOU want to do when you graduate. To me I would be screaming with joy to go hang out in L&D or even ER, but I would poke my eyes out if someone stuck me on Ortho. Pick what lights your fire!

No doubt, moon!! (Although that is the unit I work nights on.......can't say I'd be doing that type of nursing....)

I would do the ER, you see all kinds of goodies in there....

i'm with all those who say it depends on what you're thinking of for your future after graduation....

if it were me, i would definitely go for the er:smiletea2:

That's the thing -- I don't know what I want to do after graduation. I am keeping an open mind until I'm done with school (or have to apply for jobs, whichever comes first). I have always been fascinated by the ER and I really enjoyed the day I spent there last week, but there are so many aspects of hospital nursing I haven't seen and probably won't see (in clinical), and here's a good shot at filling in the gaps.

I will probably stick with ER. I had a great time. Thanks for the suggestions!

what about a transplant floor or oncology?
