Where do YOU sit in class?

Our nursing classes are held in a multi-media lecture hall. The hall is video-linked to a branch classroom 45 miles away. We have 7 rows of 5 seats on the left and 6 rows of 5 seats on the right with a center aisle. The front row on the left is used by the instructors (we have 7 total) I sit in the aisle seat in the first (student) row on the left. What amazes me is that no one else sits in this row. Only three students sit in the front row on the right. It just amazes me that my fellow students would work so hard to get into our program (on average, 4-5 applicants for every freshman seat) and then sit in the back of the classroom during lecture! Where do you sit in your classroom/lecture hall and why?

It depends, if I am in lecture I sit second row all the way to one side, that way I am close to the instructor so I can focus, but not close enough for the professor to take notice of me. During exams I try and get the computer in the far back corner away from the doors, that way as people come and go it is less distracting.

I like to sit in the front row because I get easily distracted by people's hair, the way they sit, anything to get my focus off the lecture and I end up missing something. Sometimes during tests I wish I can sit by myself in the corner because I get so distracted by people getting up and asking questions/turning tests in. I once came to class late and was embarrassed to walk up to the front so I sat towards the back and I felt like I didn't hear anything because I was looking at 25 people instead of the instructor.

Our lecture halls are set up so the seats you first see as you enter are highest up, and the rows descend in 'depth' in comparison to the previous row the furhter down you go. Our teachers stand at the bottom in a 'pit' like area, where they can see everyone easily because each row sits up higher than the previous (from the front to the back).

I sit in the front because people in the back often talk and that would be distracting.

Front and center! My vision is terrible :geek:

There's actually a study showing personality types based on where people sit in a classroom. My learning resource counselor (we all are assigned one and have to meet with them once a semester) gave me a test when I first entered the school. She said judging by my personality profile I sit on the ends of classrooms near walls. It was interesting to hear that, but that being said, there will always be exceptions to every rule.

I don't really care where people sit. Other people aren't my problem. Just my two cents.

I sit in the front row. Just my preference.

I generally sit in either the second or third row, usually on the end (near the aisle) or against a wall/window.

Once I became a serious student, I always chose to sit front-row, center. I seek to interact with the instructor as much as possible and proximity permits it.

Front row, at the end by the aisle. Why? Because I'm short and if I sit behind anyone, usually their heads block what i'm trying to see on the board or the Power Points.

Front row for several reasons. I'm a shortie so if I sit behind other people I'm not able to see too well. I also get easily distracted by people talking, moving etc and the front row provides the least amount of distraction for me.

I would sit first or second row, in or near the center. That went a long way towards keeping me focused in class.

Sometimes up front. Sometimes in the back. I don't adhere to a ritual of "that's MY seat." Change is good.
