What specialty do you aspire to?

What do you want to do in nursing, how far do you want to go? I know personally I dream at night about my life as a bedside LPN, then (years later, after much education) as a midwife, etc. What do you dream about?

Either a CRNA or an Acute Care, Neonatal, or Cardiac NP.

I think.

But then, I figure I'll probably change my mind a half a dozen times before I finally get to where I end up! ;)

teaching the next generation of nurses....that is what i aspire to do!

and yes, i know i'll be at bedside for a while, will need to do some preceptorships, continue my education to a ph.d in nursing...but it will all be worth it! :)

My heart is to work in Geriatrics as a NP, but I would like to work in Neo Natal ICU too!:)

what do i want to be when i grow up?? hmmm...well, when the "call" to nursing came to me, so did the "call" to pediatric oncology. i was living in the metroplex at the time, so it was no big deal. now i live 100 miles from the metroplex in a very small community and there is not a lot of opportunity for pediatric oncology here. i don't want to drive to the city. so i'm thinking i may pick one or the other...either pediatrics or oncology. then pray that the need (no i don't wish for more children to get sick, just that better physicians come this way and hospitals see a local need for it) comes closer to home. after finishing up with the lvn program, going to take a semester off and finish pre-reqs for bsn. i want bedside nursing and to helps others...that's what i want to do when i grow up!!

When I grow up I would like to eventually have my BSN...work somewhere in pediatrics or maybe in L&D, or perhaps even the E.R. I am not sure, the possibilities are endless. I won't know what I really want to do until I'm done with the LVN program, get my foot in the door, ya know? Whatever it is, it will be a specialty I am passionate about.

I'm not sure yet..Either L&D (I would like to be an LC as well) or a developmental disabilities nurse..

OB/L&D/Postpartum as a lactation consultant. I plan to sit for the IBCLC the summer after I graduate. I also definitely intend on continuing on with an RN->BSN program. Then, if I'm feeling ambitious, I might look into a NP or CNM program.

Specializes in Psychiatric.

I'm not sure yet...I have narrowed it down to either NICU or OR, but there is so much I haven't experienced yet...I also really enjoy working with elderly folks so I might go in that direction, and I also like the idea of hospice nursing...I truly didn't realize when I started school that there are SO many areas open to nurses!! :)

Specializes in Med-Surg, Psych.

I'd love to be a L&D nurse or if I really want to be in school forever, then a CNM. I am interested in so many areas of nursing; I cannot wait to get experience.

Very interesting thread as I have absolutely no clue what field of nursing I would like to join. I suppose that isn't such a bad thing as I have quite a good while to decide. :)

You and I have sort of discussed this....I "was" aspiring to be a CNM but am unsure of the logic in that with the current trend for midwives. Now, I am unsure of what it is I plan to do...I know I will most definately be going on to get my BSN so that I am not "stuck" in bedside nursing for the rest of my life. I just don't know where I want to go from there....and I am unsure of what specialty I really want to be in now.
