What school do you go to?

Does your school have a waiting list for the nursing program?

I have noticed a lot of people talking about taking classes such as Anatomy, Pysio, Micro ect along with nursing class...at my school those are pre-nursing, you have to have ALL your biology class done before you can even apply.

Specializes in Long Term Care.

I go to a community college in Western Kentucky. There we have to have our A & P 1 done (pass with a C) before applying for Nursing. We can be accepted before the A& P 2, and Micro. I took both A & P before I applied I wanted to take Micro with A & P 2 but my advisor said that I wouldn't be able to do both. I am glad I waited. Now I will take developmental Pshcology with 1st semester nursing. English 2 with second semester, then micro next summer and humanities in 3rd semester and basic public speaking in my fourth semester. I have 17 hours this semester in nursing and i believe that it is the same with the other three semesters and except for micro I will be taking the other gen ed classes in the evenings.

I go to (or, am about to go to!) Mercy School of Nursing in Charlotte, NC.

I don't believe that they have a waiting list, because I got in my first try. It is very competitive and one of the only Diploma programs in the state. I took A&P 1 and just finished A&P 2, and they are both required before beginning classes. You can also take any of the gen-ed classes (English, Micro, and two other classes I can't remember right now!) before-hand if you choose to do so.

:)

Oh, and my school is a 19 month program without any (long) breaks!

We have the option of taking A&P and Microbiology before or after acceptance into the program. They are on a list with a lot of other classes which that you could take before the program like English, Diet Therapy, Psychology...etc. Even though you don't have to take these class beforehand, you almost have to take all of them to get an acceptable score to get into the program (you get extra points for doing them). Oh...I forgot...by the way I go to Fairmont State in WV :)

FTCC requires that all first year pre-reqs to be taken with a passing letter grade prior to being accepted into the nsg program. This is also required in the bridge program from Lpn to Rn. FTCC=Faytech CC

1st year pre-reqs: A/P 1&2,english 111, psyc 150&241, must have had basic chemisty,algebra and biology and a elective.

I'm in my last year of a 3-year diploma program and they don't require any sciences, other than chemistry, before entering the program. You take anatomy, physiology, micro, psychology, developmental psych, etc. along with your nursing programs but you can, of course, do them all before nursing school if you're so inclined. Would certainly lighten the load a bit because the nursing courses plus starting clinicals 6 weeks after you start school is really intense. But diploma programs are clinically strong--gotta love the hands-on experience and learning you get from them. For me, at my age, it was great that I didn't need any prereqs before nursing school.

I go to Liberty University in Va. They require you to have completed Intro. to Nursing,Medical Terminology,Chemistry, and A&P I&II before entering the program. You have to have a 3.0 GPA minimum and no less than a B in either Anatomy course. You can take Microbiology after being accepted. Upon graduation, you will have completed 800 clinical hours!

I go to Brandon University (Manitoba, Canada). The nursing program is "relatively" new here in its present form and I will be in a BN program. Right now I am going to be working on my pre-nursing year. From what I understand, the waiting list isn't too too long (could be totally off base here) but will get more-so by next year (and so on).

Our pre-nursing year includes:

*Anatomy & Physiology

*Human Growth and Development

*Nursing Foundations I

*Medical Microbiology

English

Intro. to Statistics

*Nutrition

Elective

The stars are the ones I still have to take this year and I'm crossing my fingers and praying hard that I make year II (May application).

Hope it's ok that I'm posting here!

I go to Spoon River College in Macomb, IL. Each year about 257 potential nursing students apply and only a total of 33 students get accepted at both SRC campuses. Some of the same people apply each year trying to get in. I got most of my non-nursing classes out the way before starting the progam. A&P II is the only one I had to take during my LPN session. This coming school year all I have to take is just nursing classes. Those other classes I had taken before I began the nursing program.

Where I go to school, you are accepted directly into the nursing school and begin taking nursing classes your first semester. Nursing classes are mixed in with all the other required non-nursing courses throughout the 4 years (it's a BSN program). Some of the typically non-nursing classes such as A&P, biochem, and pharmacology are designed specifically for nursing students and are usually taught by teachers who are nurses with bachelors, masters, or doctorates in the particular field of study. I think it's kinda nice to not have only nursing classes for the last couple of years like other programs have because it gives you a break from nursing, plus 4 years is more time to memorize and practice all the skills and everything you need to know.

I go to MTC, MIdlands Technical College. We have a pre-nursing course and then a two year Associates Degree in Nursing. In the pre-nursing you have to take A&P 1, A&P 2, Pscyh 201, Medical Terminology, English 101, Nursing 115, Math 101, Freshman Seminar. And then you can apply to th enursing program there is a wait list but if you have at least a 2.5 or better you have a good chance of getting in. And no repeats more than once in each class and no grade lower than a C. :nurse:

Hey can you get your school President to talk to mine?!?!?! What a great idea. Half the "crap" I learned in my chemistry classes I will never use! Like I am going to need to know how nuclear bombs are made, and how to make flamible gases with a battery for nursing! (Not to mention many other things! :chuckle )
