What is your Nursing Curriculum?

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I am curious as to what the curriculums are at the Nursing School you are or will be attending.

Here is mine for community college Associates Degree Nurse.

We must complete the following pre-nursing pre-req's before we can apply:

Anatomy

Physiology Or a combo anatomy/phsiology course

Sociology

English 1A

Math 1

Microbiology

Chemistry

The Curriculum for the Nursing program is as follows:

First Year Program:

First semester

RN 1 Introduction to Nursing Theory and Process

RN 2 Clinicals for above

Second Semester:

RN 5 Perinetal and Adult reproductive Health Nursing

RN 6 Clinicals for above

RN 21 Transcultural Nursing

RN 15 Nursing Leadership

Second Year

Third Semester

Fourth Semester

RN 7 Advanced Med/Surg Nursing -A

RN 8 Clinical for above

RN 11 Advanaced med/surg Nursing B

RN 12 Clinical for above

RN 19 Work experience as elective.

And that's the whole nursing program. We also need to complete some courses for our general Ed requirements: Polysci2, 2 PE courses and 1 Humanities.

As I read about others, I see where they are doing advanced A & P and Micro in their Nursing programs. IS this BSN coursework or will I do this again in one of the curriculum courses stated above?

I'm really interested to know how other schools do this.

Hugs!

Wow! That is quite a program! I am taking my nursing program thru Fresno City College and have most of the same pre-req's. I am taking A & P separately so they will transfer to CSUF later if I decide to continue. My thoughts are to continue taking courses for the the BSN program if I have to wait for my Lottery spot to be picked.

What semester are you in and how do you like it?? Where did you do your pre-req Microbiology? I am trying to see who in our area is really good for this class. I am taking A & P thru Gray in Madera, I hear she is fabulous and am hoping to find a great teacher for the Micro too.

Hugs!

Now that I have read this thread......I am more convinced that my school was a "bootleg" program!!! *smile* I didn't have to take Chemistry, Microbiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, and community based nursing. Those who struggled through the nursing program would probably do better if they had the courses I just listed. Oh well, the school still manages to make it very difficult and you have to sacrifice a lot of your time and life in order to pass.

Specializes in Emergency & Trauma/Adult ICU.

The curriculum at my diploma program:

pre-reqs: chem & bio w/labs, and college algebra

Fall 1:

A & P I w/lab

Intro to Psych

Nursing Concepts I w/clinical

Spring 1:

Summer 1:

Med-Surg Nursing w/clinical

Nutrition

Fall 2:

Computer Applications

College Writing I

begin rotation through 8 weeks of each of the specialty areas: critical care, maternal-child, pediatrics & psych/MH nursing. Each is an entire semester course w/clinicals crammed into 8 weeks.

Spring 2:

College Writing II

continue rotation through specialties

Final 8 weeks:

Nursing Leadership/Trends w/clinical

It's 22 months. The other 33-month option, which I chose, is to take A&P, micro, nutrition, psych, soc, and the computer class the first year and then continue w/the nursing courses. You end up w/about 66 credits to transfer to a BSN program if you wish.

Good luck to all! :)
