What is the hardest class

For those of you that are done with nursing or are already in a program, what class have you found to be the hardest? I am petrified of pharmacology!:chair:

Specializes in Cardiac.

Pharm was pretty easy. Mostly memorization. If you took A&P recently, then it will make even more sense.

Specializes in Onc/Hem, School/Community.

I haven't taken pharm yet; however, hear its pretty scarey. For me, the most difficult class was General Chemistry I. Intro to Chem was full, so I signed up for the class that wasn't really entry-level. Of course, I had not had a chemistry class since I graduated from high school in 1984! Plus, the book was very dry, as well as the instructor. I had horrible lab partners. I stuck it out though and ended up with an A. I loved A&P and Micro and did well because I found them interesting subjects.

Alot of it depends on the teacher. I was afraid of pharmacology too but it is mostly memorization. I had the most trouble with maternal/newborn and I was working as an SNA in NICU/newborn nursery. Teachers can make you or break you.

When I took chem I had the worst lab partner in the entire universe!! She used to wreck labs, write down wrong info and we would have to do labs over sometimes like 7 times! She was just plain DENSE! She got so bad it was a joke and I was teased! Well one of the maintenance men asked me one day which one I was venting about, and I said if you walk by the room and find my hands around someones neck, you know that it is her! The prof joked I would get extra credit for that!

I found all classes were equally hard; I had a really rough time with Endocrine.

But.....they all build on each other. For example, you think you're 'done' with endocrine, but it will pop up again when you do pediatrics and pedi-related endocrine disorders.

i think it varies per program. One class I have heard constantly come up as one of the hardest is MEd-Surg because it is SOOOOO much information in a fairly quick time. The other classes tend to be a little more focused. However, if there is an area you just really DO NOT like, then it may prove difficult for you because studying for it is difficult due to the fact you find it boring/just something you really do not want to do.

I thought Physiology (aka Anat & Phys II) was the hardest. I didn't get a moment's rest from studying for that class when I was in it. After taking it though, I found Pharm to make alot more sense.

Some of the other students that I spoke with that are in their 4th semesters said that Med-Surg II was their toughtest class to date. Lots of homework, lots of quizzes and tests, and lots of critical thinking.

The hardest class was chemistry but the hardest subject so far is a tie between cardiac and fluids/electrolytes.

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

Well, 1st semester I would have said Pharm, hands down. But now as I have just finished my last class, my last Med/Surg class was the hardest, so tough I wasn't sure a lot of the time if I would make it. The entire semester was Maternity, Critical Care, and Med/Surg-Renal/Hepatic with a little Cancer, Immunology, and Women's health thrown in. :o The tests were the toughest since I started nursing school, and our entire grade this semester consisted of 2 exams and a Final, the Final being 50%. Of course, having to pass the HESI or automatically fail kinda added to the pressure all semester, too.

We lost quite a few of our classmates from the final alone, and the HESI too. But I have to say it feels darn good to get through it all.

Have to add, too, that I think A&P II was very tough, and I wish I had spent more time actually understanding the material rather than memorizing it. But I took it pre-nursing, so at the time it did not hit me the way my learning/thinking would have to change, since nursing school is very little about memorizing and very much about the process of understanding.

IMHO, the Nursing Research course in my RN-BSN program was a real drag. I've heard the same from others that went thru the Generic BSN program.

In my ADN program I found the endocrine period of instruction to be way to tedious.

Specializes in OB, lactation.

I think it totally depends on the instructor.

I think my patho was my hardest/most technical subject matter/ hard teacher class, but also one of my favorites.

My pharm was my lowest grade but it was mostly because the teaching style didn't mesh with my learning style, not because it was really any harder than anything else.

I disliked my research class the most of all.
