hey all,

so i am in my first semester of nursing school at an ADN program. i get mixed reviews from everyone and just want to here everyones opinion. what did you think was the most hardest for you? I am in fundamentals right now where there is alot of competencies and pretyt much learning the basic of nursing. ofcourse, if you have never taken nursing classes before, then being thrown into this can put you right into a whirlwind. I dont think its all that difficult if you put the time into it, i really think it is all about time management, studying, and focusing ENTIRELY on your career which is what should happen if you want to be a nurse.

my question i am asking is basically did you find fundamentals the hardest bc it was all new .. or was it medsurg? nexdt semester will be medsurg/maternity for me and ive heard mixed reviews. some say that fundamentals was the heardest for this bc it takes a little while to get use to routine and how they test (nclex style ofcourse) and all the competencies lab etc and then others have told me it gets way harder with medsurg. i am very aware that ever one has their own opinions and whats hard for some people may not be to the next etc but i just want your opinion. thanks :)

I am confused about this bolded part. Are you saying to be a Nurse you should focus your entire life on Nursing. Like there is no you time, family time, free time???

Wow I didn't arealize it came off like that ofcourse u needs family time friend time and be able to enjoy urself or else u wont get thru it u need to be happy too .. but I guess I meant it requires more time and energy than ur pre reqs did

Ok I just wanted to clarify because so many people think they need to make it their entire life and then they are miserable and burnt out.

I felt second semester was my hardest. We had Med/Surg Peds and OB that semester. The material got a lot harder, 1st semester we had a lot of breaks between classes and I felt Fundamentals was a breeze.

Second we were in non stop 8 hr days with a heavier load. That is when we lost most of our people. I thought the second year, especially the last semester was the easiest. But everyone is different. I didn't really have a hard time. I didn't study, I tried, I just couldn't focus. But I attended 98% of classes and I am learned better that way so I did good.

let me just clarify i didnt reread the post before i wrote it and it came out wrong lol ofcourse you need time with family, friends and your own life you need to be sane lol i would be lying if i didnt say that i made dinners and drinks are part of my nursing routine .. you just learn how to manage your time better. i meant to come across like nursing requires more time and energy than your pre reqs do and some of your friends dont understand that .. i guess that clarifies it a little better. me not having a "family" dont have to worry about that .. but seeing friends is sitll definitelya must .. i cant isolate myself from the world and i wouldnt want anyone else to either!

but thanks for your response otherwise.

For me third semester was the hardest. Peds and Med surg II. It was brutal.
