What is a "passing grade" for your nursing program?

  1. 2 I am just curious as I have noticed that it varies program to program.

For my program that I will be starting next month, a passing grade is 80% and anything less is failing. Furthermore, your exams must average out to 80% prior to them adding any of your other assignments into the grade. So even if you have an 89%, but your exams average to 79.9, you will be failing then semester.

80 for my program. But its a final average of all your graded papers, exams, projects etc.

My program requires a 76% accumulative of your exam grades. You have a lot of other assignments due throughout each course, but they do not count towards your final grade. In other words, you can score 100% on everything assigned but if your exam grades are not an average of 76%, you fail.

This is how our program is, only our passing grade is 78%.

I think ours was also 80%, but it's an average. I had one exam that fell below that (I was deathly ill and rushed through the exam), but still passed because my average was much higher. It also averages everything, much like any other class, where each assignment and exam is a certain percentage of the overall grade, so even if your exam scores average below 80% but you have great essay grades and clinical write up grades, you can still pass.

My program requires a 69.5 to pass a nursing course.

I am semi-nervous about the exam average having to be 80% I have a 3.9 gpa on my pre-reqs and have been a great student. But I have personally known a couple people who have been in the program prior to me that have had like 90+ percent in the class but the exams averaged at fractions of a percent below 80% (79.8% for one girl) and she had to repeat the third semester and couldn't graduate with her cohort.

In my pre-reqs I rarely scored less than an 80% on an exam but I feel that some of the teachers were very lenient and I don't expect that sort of leniency and curved exam grades to continue with the nursing program. I am probably just over-thinking it.

My program requires a 75% average on exams before points from assignments are added in, but they do round. So if you end up with a 74.4% average on exams you fail even if your assignments were 100%. Some classes have more assignment points than others. For example, my pharm class had 3 exams and the final, nothing more. For mental health and OB, about 25% of the points were assignments. Some classes also have extra credit from various papers, case studies and ATI exams. Extra credit is usually worth about 3% worth of points.

Anything at or above a 70% is passing, and for each course the exam average must be at least a 70% in order to pass the class. However, my school only allows two Cs in courses in order to continue with the program, so in my mind they may as well say anything less than an 80% is failing lol.

At my school anything above a 70% is considered passing; assignments, papers, projects, etc are considered clinical work and are graded on a pass/fail rubric.

78%, I don't start until next month though so I don't know if it's got a special averaging rule like the test one above.

We were set up like yours but the passing point was at 78.0 0r above. I heard that they will increase the passing point to 80 for the first year nursing students this fall. I think it might hurt them a little because if that was the passing point for our class we would have lost 3 more students and only would have graduated 7.

Ours is 76% in each component. So, you can't average out your grade. We also have pass/fail clinicals and a med math exam which requires a 90% or better. Failure to meet any of those standards and you fail the entire semester.
