What did some do after failing nursing school?

Hi all! I hope everyone is doing well.

I was posting on here to find out from people who are in the same situation as I am. I wanted to know about those who failed nursing school, did you get a different degree? Did you try to go into another program a year later. Or did you decide to a degree in something else and then go for the accelerated year nursing program. At this point I feel that getting a different degree and then going back would make more sense. I am only 21 but even before going in I wasn't sure if I really wanted to be a nurse or not. I have spent time thinking about the reasons why I wasn't successful and in the mean time I'm taking a class. I feel like I could be spending my time better by working on another degree and then going back to nursing. So just wanted to know if anyone else had done this before. If anyone had any suggestions for other degrees?

Thanks so much!!!

I knew a lot of people who went on to gain degrees in social work after failing nursing school.

I was unsuccessful in my previous nursing program. I took a year or so and regrouped and took more pre-reqs got into another nursing school and graduated this April passed my Nclex on the first try this month.

You gotta ask yourself do you see yourself doing anything else besides nursing if you can they do it if not then take this time to get your mind right. Regroup and evaluate why it is you were unsuccessful the last time so you will be if you try again.

Goodluck to you.

Hi there! I started RN school back in the summer of 2011. I failed one class in that Term (Intro to Algebra and it was an online class) I had to retake the class and did much better the second time. All was well and I was cruising through the program until I got to the Spring Term of 2012. I was 9 months pregnant and trying to juggle 4 classes and my job. I was failing A+P 3 and needed a miracle to pass. So needless to say I failed that class. my school had a you fail 2 classes you are out. I got dismissed and was beyond crushed. I tried to get reinstated , using my pregnancy. I was under so much stress and was swollen before my son was born. I couldn't believe my school denied my request. I cried and figured I was not meant to be an RN. So when my son was about 4 mos old I tried to get into a program that was in my town. I couldn't pass the HESI entrance. The book they gave us was nothing like the test. I got a 72 on the math the first time and a 74.5 the next time. I passed all the other sections. But they don't round. So I gave up on that. i just decided to work and be the best mom to my son. Fast forward to the end of 2013 I was talking to a friend of mine who was in the program I got dismissed from. She said the program had made major changes and I should try again to get back in. I waited a few months and in Febuary I called and talked to the campus director. I came in and met with an admissions rep. I wrote a letter and really put my heart into it. I found out about 2 weeks later I was granted reinstatement! And best of all they let me come back to the term i was in. I just retook Anatomy and I passed with a B! So now I am on track to graduate in 2015. Sorry for a long post, but wanted you to know my story and let it inspire you :)

In my school, they have the option to drop into the LPN program and then try again in the LPN to RN program. Some also transfer to a different school.

The classmate that failed our program went on to accounting. I think it's a much better match for her.

I failed nursing school first semester by 2 points but I'm not giving up. I was unprepared because the school notified me of my acceptance within 10 days of the starting day so they rushed me to complete all my immunizations etc. Had our first exam on the third day and the theory two weeks later. :(
