What are the item(s) you need most for nursing school?

Nursing Students General Students

I have been going through all these posts to find what items are the best things to have for nursing school. The posts are all scattered so I thought I would start a post that will contain all the info for the new incoming students.

I would like to know what I should spend my money on when it comes to study guides, NCLEX review books, NET review books, best nursing shoes (without a logo), stethescope, misc nursing items you have to have, etc. Any new students/senior students/graduate nurses have any info they can share? What were the items you couldn't live without???

Thanks for your input!

My school doesn't allow tape records.........

My school doesn't allow tape records.........

Why would a school not allow tape recorders? (Please understand that I am not trying to be controversial, I have just never heard of that and am curious.) I am calling my school Monday to make sure that I am allowed to use a tape recorder. I am glad you made this post because I never thought about the possibility that they may not let me use one. Past colleges that I have attended have always allowed them. That sucks if they will not let me have one, and I am sorry that they will not let you have one, they are great.

at my school you have to ask the instructor if it is ok to record the lecture. ive never gotten a no.. im not sure why they would not allow you to record lectures.. i know they wont let us record test reviews, which makes sense, but thats about it.

Ashley,

How big are the files on your itouch? Like how many MB/GB is an hour lecture?

if its in wav format, about 12 mb, but if you convert them to mp3s, they are smaller.. also, i export them to my pc and burn them on cds to save space..

I'm a 2nd yr. RN student and I truly love my backpack on wheels! Those books can sure weigh a ton! Also:

--a LOT of highlighters of different colors.

--LOTS of printer ink for your computer printer!

--Pens that click (no removable tops to lose).

--Comfy shoes.

--Lint roller if you have pets, or wash your clothes with the towels.

--I use a plastic clipboard that has storage in it (bought it at Walmart). It sure comes in handy!!!

Ok so let me first say that I am in no way connected to AT&T. I am not an employee, customer, or even a solicitor. I just found out some cool information today and wanted to share it with everyone on here. I found out that the smart phone through AT&T offers a pharmocology app that some students and current nurses might find useful. I am sure that all of the smart phone out there have some type of nursing app, but if you currently have AT&T you might not know that there is a pharmacology app offered for free on your phone. Just wanted to inform everyone.

Again not trying to sell anything or get you to switch users, or anything like that just passing on the information that I learned today.

Also, not sure how your computers are with added programs, but I found a really good interactive computer program that I can add to my computer for Anatomy and Physiology. It is a little more in-depth than what a nurse really needs, but it is still really cool and was only $20. So if you need some extra help in that area, then you should check around for this and other software to add to your computer. This is just my little FYI, in case anyone would benefit from it. Thank you :)

I don't think I have ever had time to listen to a lecture. I think paying attention in class and taking good notes is a lot better, plus if you don't understand it there is always your book, google, or here to take care of mind boggling stuff! The only thing I used a lot was food and montain dew, the rest is rest and you can adapt to what you have!

Paying attention in class ,taking notes, asking questions and also recording the lectures is much better.

I record so i can go back and write/add notes because people speak faster than they can write. There is a lot of information you can miss because you can't catch up. When I record I don't sleep in class, I do write lots of stuff down lol. There are people who record but don't write down anything and that doesn't help much.

I'm not sure why. The instructors are afraid that information will be said that will get them in trouble, maybe. I don't understand it at all. Some of the instructors are fast readers and you sure can't take notes fast enough so a tape recorder would be great.

Specializes in student; help!.

Android and Apple phones offer pharm (and other medical) programs as well. FWIW.

I just went out and bought a bunch of stuff today...

3" binder

Stapler

Post-it notes

Index cards

Pens

Pencils

Whiteout

Tape

Notebooks

And of course...a backpack! It's a regular old Jansport, but it's big, and only cost $20! I can easily fit the binder, some notebooks, my laptop and extras in it. And I never have to worry about carrying my books because I'm getting e-versions of all of them.

Fairly recently I just bought a bunch of highlighters since I'm currently taking A&P II, and last year, I bought plastic folders so I could just recycle them year after year since they stay perfectly in tact.

Now I just need to buy my books, my uniform, a watch and my shoes! I don't need to worry about a steth or anything because my school gives us each a kit at orientation.

My school wont let us tape record either, big no no...HIPPA is the reason why.

That's what my school has said also BUT then why do other schools allow it?? I mean, just make sure the instructor doesn't say anything that will get them in trouble with HIPPA and you'll have nothing to worry about........just my opinion.
