What brand of PDA? Also, we have to wear white scrub bottoms - which I think is pretty standard - but what brand gives the best, ahem, "coverage." Or is it best just to stock up on ugly ol' nude undypants?

i would recommend a Saunders NCLEX review book eventually...good comfortable shoes..I love Merrells..they are soooo great

I bought a pair of the croc clogs, I absolutely love them. I got them for only 12.95 at Burlington coat factory. I saw them online for nearly triple that amount. The are so light and you can even wet them and they are fine :)

Thanks for the great info so far! Please...keep the suggestions coming!!

Hey, I'm currently an LPN student. I found that nurse mates are awesome shoes along with dr. sholls arch support just to give extra comfort. I have also heard that roper has come out with a nurse shoe and the people who have it love it. A good walking shoe by nike or reabox would also be a good idea to try. Something I find very useful in clinical is a coil pocket guide made for RN's or LPN's. In it are assessments to guide u, meds, section for stuff u might come across in emerg, geri, OB/peds patients, lab values, basics like normal vitals, pain scales, BMI chart, commen abreviations, med calcs, there is also a place to keep up to 5 patients info and just use a ball point pen to write and an alcohol swab to wipe it off. U can also keep phone numbers and codes for your hospital and it comes with a monthly planner that u can fill in each month. If you are interested it is by Ehren Myeres either under LPN Notes (NUrse's Clinical Pocket Guide) or under RN notes. stethascope wise i purchased a cheap 14 dollar stethascope that works totally fine b/c so many people's $100 stethascopes went missing on the units. Also try and get a watch that u can pin to your uniform, otherwise your constantly taking it off to wash your hands. Hope that helps.

Sony Palm, love it! I bought it my first semester of nursing school and have been using it faithfully ever since. I have it loaded with a Tabers med dictionary, Lippencott drug guide, RN notes and a diagnostic program. This has truly been a lifesaver when going to clinicals. Several of my other classmates have come to me and used some of the info I have loaded on it. This also helps me to be very organized. I can set alarms on it and also have all of my assignments listed on my calendar. Good shoes, I have Dansko's and LOVE them. Good stethescope. I bought a Cardio III. I also agree with a small notebook for clinicals. I like to write down my vitals as I do them so as not to forget as well as any to do's or questions. I also agree with the pants with pockets. One can never have too many pockets. :) I bought a "shopper" bag to carry my books in and to go to clinicals with. This has been awesome. I went through three different bags before I found this one. I bought it on ebags.com. Search shopper. I found the rolling to be too cumbersome, the messenger style to be too big but the shopper style to be just right! :rotfl: Lastly, I like the envelopes that they carry at Target with the velcro closures. These envelopes are perfect for storing your looseleaf paper in as well as notes for class. I found looseleaf paper and the envelopes method to be exactly what I needed to stay organized! I keep the looseleaf together with those little black clippies.. You can never have too many of those.

That is all I can think of right now. Best of luck!

On the subject of shoes...I know it has been discussed in about a million threads, but specifically, I have wide feet (thank you very much to my three children.) I purchased a pair of Rockers in wide that seem pretty comfortable but a little tight across the front. Maybe they just need some breaking in. Anyone else with wide feet have great luck with a particular brand of shoe?

Thanks,

Richele

Hi there!

I'm just starting my accelerated BN in september and just got my list of things to buy. I'm surprised by how strict the uniform (i.e. shoe and sock) policy is but I understand this is to comply with the range of preferences clinical placements could have. Anywhoo, a watch. With my current digital watch I have to fumble with small buttons to get it to the stopwatch or seconds setting. It may seem like a little thing but, does anyone have any suggestions on what the best type of watch to get is?

Is a PDA really necessary? I want to do all that i can to make this 20 month accelerated degree go as smoothly as possible but I'm also very, very broke.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

I have had about 5 pairs in the past 2 semesters. I just bought a pair from KLOGS. They are white clogs, ugly as anything...but Oh my are they comfortable. I just spent 6 straight hours standing in the OR and my legs and feet did not hurt a bit. They are washable and have a closed back on them.(my school requires them to be all white with an enclosed back).

Some other supplies I would reccomend are:

a pen lite, bandage scissors, hemastats and lots and lots of study guides and CD's. We also use the Delmar series of Cd's. These are great to help you with your skills. I also subscribe to Nursing 2005 and nursing made easy. I find them both extremely helpful. I have quite a few of the nursing made easy books. I would reccomend them to anyone who is a visual learner. They use pneumonics (spelling?) and other things to help you remember.

Good luck in your adventure in nursing school. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. :Melody: :balloons:
