We lost two more people from my class Friday. They were on their second chance to take the dosage test, and both made 85 (90 is required). One of them, I didn't know well. The other was in my clinical group this semester and was a very quiet but sweet person. I feel so bad for both of them...I sort of gets depressing after a while to see so many people end up a class behind, or just quitting. I just couldn't believe they didn't make it.

Carol--

It never gets easier. Actually it gets harder! We lost three from our last semester with only one semester left! OUCH!

just try not to let it take your focus! Keep working and don't get distracted!!

You can make it!

I know it is hard to watch people struggle. Thank goodness you made it. Keep up the hard work!

It is hard to watch others not make it, hopefully they will get another chance at it.

Good Luck to you, continued success !

I understand...we lost 30 between the first semester and the second---many of those were part timers, but we are now down to 90. In fact, the school had to cancel an entire clinical group because there weren't enough students to fill it.

Very sad.

Yeah, you really have to want it to make it in this type of program. I hate math but I made it through the calculations...med surg was another story. Anyway, good luck.

What is the best way for someone to prepare for this test? I'm hoping to get into the nursing program next fall and would like to prepare the best I can now. I have the Incredibly Easy Dosage book, but I was wondering if there is a website or somewhere to get practice questions.

Thanks in Advance,

Kris

Carol,

It is tough to see fellow students leave. Hopefully they will not leave the program and be able to get into the next class. It is for the best. With this profession requiring more and more from it's nurses, you want to be the best you can be coming out of school.

You will be fine and hopefully they will get right back into the program.

Good luck,

C

I know we lost a bunch from our class too.....

Dosage Calc was always a biggie! I have a friend of mine whostarted in school with me and is just now finishing up OB/PEDS. She failed Med-Surg when I was in with her. Came back and finished that, then failed Geri, came back to take that, and is now in OB.

It's rediculous...but there are some meant, and some not....

I'll never forget my class lost a straight A student during the very last week of class. She had 1 lousy week before completing her ADN. This makes me furious just thinking about it 5 years later!

Her father had been ill. She took care of him while in school. He died during this last week of classes so she missed 2 clinicals. They wouldn't let her graduate! I was stunned! I had clinicals with this girl and she was awesome!

Why are nursing programs like this?

Okay, yall are scaring the pee-pee out of me. I'm in my first semester and my instructors have talked to us about the math stuff--we have to get 80s on the tests, I believe, but if we still aren't passing the med math stuff after 5 tests they'll give us 6 or 7 or 8....however many it takes us to pass. I thought that was very cool. They seem to be very understanding about the whole first-semester-scared-to-death-peeing-our-pants thing. Also, we only have 29 people in our group, so studying and one-on-one learning is a lot easier than I expected it to be. Praise God for that.

Maybe I just lucked out? I hope so...

Furball, that's awful. You'd think the nursing instructors would have some compassion. Jeez.
