Vision Test for Nursing School

  1. Hi everyone,

I am supposed to start nursing school in a month. I am worried because my school requires vision corrected to 20/20 in at least one eye. I failed the eye exam and am having to get new glasses. My concern is that even with new glasses I may not be able to be corrected to 20/20. The standard seems a little high...it seems like 20/30 should be acceptable. Are all nursing schools this stringent?

My school requires a vision test AND requires that you attest that you at not color blind. I thought that was wild. They did not administer the test at the school. Anywho...as long as my doctor signed off they were fine.

Right, but did they require 20/20?

That's ridiculous! One of my nursing managers was color blind and she was very successful managing multiple departments.

Did you talk to your eye doctor about your concerns?

20/20 is a ridiculous standard. 20/30 is often not even corrected.

I have my doubts about a school that would reject students based on that.
