Has anyone used this at their school? We are beginning to use it at mine and i was just wondering if anyone had used it, and what they thought of it. It seems like cool program, but did it help anyone

Yep, we had to be checked off on that skill. It is pretty neat, it prints out how well you did. Nothing like when I did my first IV though!

It's dumb. Really all it is, is an overpriced check off list. The "virtual" part is nothing like the real thing. Just another slick sales job.
Imagine, if you will, the Virtual Tampon Inserter. And then remember what it was like trying to do it for the first time. You get my drift.

Heh, I love it! But yeah, you're right. We have this in our skills lab, though we discovered it by accident. It's kind of entertaining, but I don't think it's that useful. Ours has various "scenarios" of different difficulty, like the IV drug user, the little old lady, the kid, etc.
I guess it *might* help with coordination of pulling skin plus pushing catheter in plus withdrawing needle or something, but that's about it.

We have one in our lab. As far as actually inserting the IV into the skin, it doesn't really help. It did, however help tremendously with the before and after stuff. We had to choose our supplies, choose the iv site and secure it after insertion. Practicing it a few times on the virtual IV helped with the "routine" part of it.
Good Luck, Tracey

Yes i agree ,so far it had helped in getting the routine down and selecting equipmet and the site, but not really with the actual procedure
