Unusual financial aid question

I am thinking of taking a course at a CC over the summer (in addition to my regular nursing course load). I would pay for it out-of-pocket--no financial aid necessary. I am, however, getting financial aid for my nursing program, which is at a 4-year institution. I need to retain my part-time status at my nursing school, which is why I'm not going to take this extra class there--it would put me into full-time status for that semester at my regular school. This extra class is not needed for my nursing degree either, so I don't think I need any special permission from my nursing program in order to take it. Will it mess anything up financial-aid wise if I take a class at another institution which I'm paying for myself?

I would check with your nursing school before doing anything that could possibly cause a problem. You sure don't want to mess up financial aid--although I don't know why that would be an issue if you are paying for it yourself.

I would think, IMO, you probably won't have a problem. I mean, are you going for the credits? Are you just going to learn about something different? If you don't really care about getting the credits, why don't you see about auditing the class. This way you can enjoy the class without worry if you are doing something wrong. Of course, the best suggestion is to check with the CC.

Well, I contacted my school's financial aid office and they said as long as I was paying for this extra class myself, it wouldn't affect my financial aid. Now I have to consider how much extra stress I want to add to my summer, lol.

If you are paying for it yourself it shouldn't mess up your fin. aid status.. glad you found out. Good Luck this summer.
