Hey Beauties!

I was wondering was anyone a unit clerk through nursing school? can you share your experiences and if it helped you get a job? Also how much did you get paid?

TIA!

Yes I was ! It was a great experience. Knowing the doctors and orders really helped me out. I knew all the routines the doctors ordered for various diagnosis. I think it really helped me thru nursing school. Not to mention that it helped me get used to 12 hour shifts.

Still in school but yes, I love being a clerk. Will be transferring to Cardio Vasc Critical Care (ICU) in 2 weeks. The RN manager who interviewed me is already aware of and welcomes the thought of a NS on the floor- as half of her RNs are new grads themselves

I was a combination CNA/Ward clerk through nursing school. I would get a small patient assingment and also function as the secretary.

It was a huge help to me during school. I got hands on patient care experience and the secretary duties familarized me with medical terminology aides aren't exposed to. I went into school already knowing the names/dosages of many medications. I knew about the most common (and many uncommon) labs and diagnostic test, what the acronyms stood for and the disease/symptoms associated with them.

All that order-entry really rubs off on you! And the coolest part was how all that info began to click and fall into place even more as nursing school progressed.

I made $12 an hour. This was in the midwest 4-5 years ago.
