There are a bunch of older threads here about UK midwives wanting to practice in the US. You can use the "search" feature in the upper right corner of your screen to look for them, or have a read through the nurse midwifery specialty forum.

I also easily found this on Google:

Council of Certified Professional Midwifery - TN.Gov

Have you looked at the site? I'm sure there is information there that would be useful.

You don't have to "start all over again," but you must pass the NCLEX and apply for a Tenn state license. Check with the TN board of nursing, per previous poster's comment. Good luck.

(Per the website I linked, the state of TN apparently licenses and regulates CPMs. The OP wouldn't have to become a nurse midwife unless she wanted to. Part of the challenge for UK midwives who come to the US is that the UK uses an entirely different educational model; midwifery is separate from nursing, midwives there are not nurses, and the UK midwives don't meet the requirements to be eligible for RN licensure in US states without, as the OP originally stated, "starting all over again" and completing an entire pre-licensure nursing program.)

Thank you very much both of you . I have checked the website and really informative. Have spoke to the NARM and they do comfirmed I can become a CPM after delivering or witnessing 10 home births . I just want to maintain my skills as might loose most of my midwifery skills if just based at home . Also it's very independent as a CPM which can be bit scary at times . Contact few of them and they all got students right. Ow as they do have lots of people on the waiting list .

I'm not sure about TN or the specific area you are in but in Dallas, TX (where I'm located) and the surrounding area there are several groups where midwives and doulas work together and share clients. They're usually CPMs and are typically very busy here. I would do some digging into what is in your area or the surrounding areas and see what you can find. Usually these companies / co-ops are very receptive to more help, as there are more expecting parents wanting a natural / non-medicated birth experience. Again, not sure what area you are in, but check out The Farm in Summertown- it's a commune but a lot of people travel there for their birthing services, Ina May Gaskin is one of the founders.
