We just ended our 6 week course of our med-surge rotation. I lost 2 very close friends/study group mates to grades. We've been together through thick and thin since first semester, have studied together almost every day, and went everywhere together. I've been with them more than I have been with my own family. I have always been blessed with things my whole life and I have never had a day where my heart ached so much that I broke down until yesterday. I never cry, I haven't cried in many years, but it just hurt me so much to have lost friends that I know deserve to pass even more than I do and I wish I could give them my grade. Just needed somewhere to type and let some things out...thanks.

Hang in there!! Is there anyway they can appeal? Sometimes this is an option in some cases.

Hello there SopranoKris how are things going with you? I don't have study buddies yet, but I couldn't imagine how you're feeling (OP). God will send new buddies keep the faith.

That's so tough. I'm so sorry :sorry:

I went through a similar situation last semester; I lost my study buddy/support system to dosage calc and I was completely devastated. BUT, she appealed and she's here to stay (knock on wood.) I hope for the same for you. But until then, hang in there.

they'll still be there to support you, if anything i'm sure they are proud that you are moving along. better than 1 person being left behind, at least they can support each other and get the grades they need to advance. Keep your eyes on the prize, your friends will be right there supporting you and cheering you on.

Most semesters I've been in school has had at least 2 students drop out. The biggest drop was in 1st Semester. At my school, if you pass 1st Semester, you stand a very good chance of passing the entire program, as out of your initial cohort of appx 32, about 24 will graduate. If you follow individual students, from start to finish, it's more like 90%+ graduation rate but not all will be in their original cohorts. My own original cohort lost 7 total prior to graduation and appears to have had a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN of those that graduated, and of those that didn't/haven't graduated, 3 dropped out entirely, 3 re-enrolled, and 1 went to a VN program. Of the students still at the school, they're all making satisfactory (or better) progress toward graduation.

Thanks for the replies! I was able to contact one of my buddies, and he's gone over the lump and he's looking to the future. My other friend, not so sure, she has a lot of stuff piling on top of not passing and I hope I can by her side with what she is going through. Thanks again, all. Next few weeks will be a bit rough on my emotionally, but I'll push through, for their sake at the least :)
