Third alternate. What are my chances???

I'm an LPN student about to graduate in June, and I plan to go straight to RN. However, I just got a letter from the first school I've applied to, and they said I wasn't accepted, but that I am #3 on the alternate list:cry:.

Now, it looks like they messed up the calculation of the pts. because I've redone it three times now, and they gave me 67pts instead of the 71pts that I have based on the application chart and the one online. So I'm going to get that squared away in the morning, but in the mean time, do you think 3rd alternate means I'll likely get in? Class doesn't start until August, and since I'm so high up on the alternate list, I'm thinking there is a really good shot between now and then that 3 people will choose a different school, change their mind, or not pass boards right? I'm trying not to feel discouraged but this was the school that I felt would be the easiest to get into, now I'm just frustrated!

On top of that, I got a letter saying that they won't take my nutrition because it was "personal nutrition" and the little caption they read online about the course didn't sound like it met their requirement. Well, this was at Univ. of CO and it met their BSN requirement, so I'm having a hard time believing it doesn't meet the requirement of the ADN program, kwim? I didn't think it would matter that much, but it dropped me to the next GPA bracket (I had an A in nutrition) which was a 10 PT DIFFERENCE :angryfire So if a couple pts. kept me from being admitted, I know that those 10pts were the deal breaker. I'll be fighting that one for sure. I think once I get a letter from CU and the syllabus they'll likely give me credit, but geez

So, even if my pts don't change and I stay 3rd alternate, what do you think my chances are?

It really varies on the schools and the nursing admissions lady could give you a good percentage but with 3rd place, I wouldn't get my hopes up, but I would be hopeful if that makes sense, the chances of 3 people deferring in this economy right now are probably pretty good. But for sure ask the Nursing Admissions lady when you get the points squared away. Is it yearly or twice a year they accept??

twice a year. I talked with her today and she said already one person has decided to decline the spot! So that means that there is only one other person in front of me between now and August.

I do think it helps that this program had the first deadline, so it's sort of the "backup" for a lot of people I think. The big program in town that most people are trying for doesn't have it's application deadline for another month, so I think that once those letters go out, a couple people may drop.

Plus a lot of us have to pass boards to get in, so I'm guessing one or two might not pass, kwim?
