Think back to the NET exam

  1. Can you guys remember back to when you took the NET. I just took it saturday and I did not complete the reading portion. There were 33 questions to be completed in 30 minutes. I was just wondering how you guys did in that area ( if you remember). Thanks Nancy

I had 6 questions left that I didn't have time to answer. I passed first time though, reading was the worst part for most people at my school mainly because of the time limit. It's very stressful. I think a majority of the people in my class now had to retake the reading section a few times. I don't know how I pulled it off the first time. lol

I did not complele NOR pass the NET the first time. When I took it a 2nd time, I really concentrated on my speed reading AND comprehension skills. When I did it the first time, I was so stuck on reading every single word and papagraphs over and over again (I though that I just had to make sure what I was answering was right and it did not matter if I did not complete the whole test ). I think my reading rate was 120 wpm. When I took it a 2nd time after training my mind, I believe my reading rate was over 250 wpm. I passed with flying colors.

I have to take this test soon and the reading part has me most stressed out as well. I have found that if I read the questions first and then underline the pertinent parts as I go along I do much better. Hope that helps.

I though for sure I failed, but I did pass. Thank God. I -really- screwed up the Math section, I have no idea how I passed. I couldn't have gotten more than half right. Whatever, I made it through the program with minor damage, mostly finanical.

Batman, that is an excellent test taking skill, however , on the NET, timing is everything. You have to reading the sentence or paragraph (could be on the computer OR they may give you a book which you CAN NOT write in) answer the question and MOVE ON. 30 minutes for 33 questions......Remember, you still have to read the information........speed reading and comprehension!!

Here are some links I found helpful:

    Speed Reading Test Online

    Reading Speed & Comprehension

Hope these help. You just have to train your mind like you are training for a marathon...it is doable.

I agree with Batman. I did the same thing back in Oct when I took mine. I got the NET test study guide, and it recommends you to do the same thing. I was so scared to take this test. I studied for a month to be sure I was okay. The book was a real help, the test was exactly like the book for me. Reading is such a downfall for me. I only got to question 27 on the reading, but still passed. The math though I thought was really easy, I scored 98 on that. It was only basic algebra and gen math. Ratios was a huge part of it!

The study guide is a big help for the NET test. Try ebay -- you can prolly find it cheaper there.

For me, I had heard from so many people that they had run out of time. I went in, and acutally rushed through the reading portion with plently of time to spare!!! I passed, but I thought that I easily could have done better on the reading. I used a stopwatch and just kept an idea of how much time I had left. If you use a practice test and time yourself, it will give you an idea of how much time you should spend on each question.

    Good luck!!!

I just got finished taking the NET this evening, and I was really nervous. I took it last August, and passed, but they said anyone who took it last semester had to retake because they were using a new version. Well, I went Saturday to take it but I didn't have the voucher (another new thing) so I went today. It was fine though. The questions were different, and they seemed to be about the same difficulty as the original. Like one previous poster said, there were a lot of ratios and the reading passages were long and boring. Anyway, I passed (woohoo!!) with a 92 percent in both and will go apply to the ADN program tomorrow.
