How long does it take you to do a head-to-toe assessment?

Are you not nervous or stressed at clinical while the other students all seem to be nervous or stressed? Does the fact that you're not nervous or stressed, stress you, because you feel like you obviously doing something wrong if you don't feel stressed or overwhelmed?

My stressful period comes right at the beginning of the day as I am walking into class. After that I even out somewhat. I don't feel stressed out by skills lab at all, what I am worrying about is actually going to hospital. Everyone says the instructors are really tough on you. But of course we know about rumors.........

I'd say that yes sometimes I wonder! Usually for me though it is related to tests. I am freaked out my clninical stuff LOL but book and class stuff is much less stressful for me. It seems that my classmates are stressed about one or the other also though.

Hopefully I will get better with the clinical stress as time goes on! Head to Toe, it took me a bit because I was nervous! But hey, if you are doing GREAT then you are GREAT! No need to worry!

I'm usually the one thinking what have I done wrong when I am the first to finish the exam, but my grades are good so I guess I'm ok! :):)

I understand what you're saying. Sometimes you fuel your own stress, and sometimes everyone around you seems like they're on the verge of having a cow and you wonder, "am I missing something?"

As far as head to toe assessment ... depends on how involved I get in conversation/questioning with the patient, but generally no more than 10 minutes. At the beginning it took much, much longer. Heck, my first clinical day it took me nearly an hour just to get vitals & give a bed bath. My pt. that day, a fiesty LTC resident w/advanced dementia, shook her head as she watched me scurry from one side of the bed to the other ... she finally said, "Honey, you're gonna get faster at this, right?" :rotfl:

I have not started clinicals yet....but I was sitting in class today wondering if any of the things my instructor was saying during lecture were going to click, EVER. I am lost, confused, stressed, etc. I always get this feeling that everyone gets it but me...especially when she starts asking all of these questions and everyone knows the answers...I am completely blank:rolleyes: I don't even know how I'll be in clinicals. I feel like the dumbest person in the class.

I used to be a biology major, it comes easy to me. Because of this pathophysiology is easier for me to understand than it is for others in my class. Everyone around me complains that class is so hard I feel as if I'm missing something. So I study the fine details of what's going on and read way too far into questions which results in me getting them wrong. I hate that. When I do a head to toe assessment I always think I'm doing it wrong but then, I feel that way with a majority of my clinical duties. I doubt myself too much.
